She could sort of always almost taste it like a metallic tang at the back of her tongue, even if everything was scrubbed and scoured both magically and by hand. Bel scooped a pumpkin up and held it under one arm as she entered, the other held her cauldron which in turn had her books and other supplies neatly stowed within it. "Hello Professor Noble, sir!" She found her seat and deposited her cauldron on the table, then proceeded to unpack it. She'd been awake for ages already: gone for a morning run with Liam (just because he'd done well with the surfing this summer it didn't mean she was about to lighten up on their training together!), and had a big breakfast. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as her mum would call it, and ready to see what else the day had in store.
The pumpkins were kind of interesting. Were they about to make pumpkin juice? Or brew something a little more sinister? Bel couldn't begin to guess: she wasn't exactly a potions expert. Not even close to one, in fact. Her enthusiasm usually made up for a lot, but potions was one of those classes where enthusiasm could actually be a bad thing: a dangerous thing. It took a ton of focus. Hence the big breakfast.
Brain food.
There miiiight have been the tiniest curl on his lip that the first person to enter was a Hufflepuff. A bright eyed, excitable Hufflepuff. But it was gone within the blink of an eye; a bare twitch at most. “Good morning Bel,” he greeted with a nod. SPOILER!!: Shera Quote:

Skipping into the class she beamed at Professor Noble, not at all bothered by his 'intimidating' presence. "Morning Professor," she greeted cheerily, before dropping her things off at a workbench. Now for the pumpkins.
She had tried to gain control of herself and stop skipping, but she still had a swing in her step as she went to the bench to grab herself a pumpkin and returned to sit at her desk. Now it was time to wait for all the others to arrive and the lesson to actually start!
And another excitable one soon followed. “Good morning, Shera.” Although the skipping was a bit much, and he grunted in disapproval. This was a classroom, not a playground. But since she’d opted to bit a little more subdued as she went to pick a pumpkin, he let it go. This time. SPOILER!!: Kimi Quote:

Was this one going to just stare thoughtfully at the pumpkins on the table, or go ahead and pick one up? He thought he’d made himself quite clear. “It won’t bite,” he commented to Timmy. That was his name, right? “So I suggest you get one pronto.” Before he made sure that it would. Jack-o-lanterns could have quite the sharp teeth, didn’t you know? SPOILER!!: Junia Quote:

Wand out, she gave her hands a quick cleaning before selecting a pumpkin from the bunch and carrying it over to a station. She was hoping Abey would be along soon so that he could sit by her. Given the professor's demeanor, she had a feeling he might be more anxious than usual and she wanted to provide some comfort just in case.
This one...yes, he saw potential. The tidy hair, kept well back out of her face, the cleaning of her hands. It spoke to precision potion-making, and it gave him hope that at least one student might be able to take away a non-toxic bottle of their efforts to experiment with after class. “The same to you, Junia.” SPOILER!!: Juniper Quote:

It was a good thing that she had taken the time to see that this potions lesson required a copper cauldron. In all of her supply list she had ever gotten she couldn’t recall ever seeing a copper cauldron on the list. She was pretty sure she had only seen pewter cauldrons on the list. So she has to have her dad send her one of his.
She headed toward the classroom. ”Good morning professor.” To be honestly this new professor kind of freaked her out a bit. Was it just her? Maybe she just needed to get used to him. She grabbed up a pumpkin. ”Are we making pumpkin pie?” It was quite possible potions was basically like cooking. Wasn’t it? The classroom seemed brighter. Interesting, she could actually see. Find she seat she went ahead and set up her station and took a seat waiting for the lesson to start.
If she’d had to ask her father to send her a copper cauldron, the Ravenclaw clearly hadn’t read her supplies list properly. It should have been a standard part of her kit since her third year. But luckily Noble didn’t yet know of her incompetence at following directions, and instead almost growled at her question. Did she seriously just ask that? “This is Potions Class, not cooking. If you want to make pumpkin pie, I suggest offering your services in the kitchens down the corridor.” SPOILER!!: Cameron Quote:

So with a polite smile, Cameron walked into the classroom, (copper) cauldron in hand. „Good morning, Professor Noble.“ He greeted him before taking one of the pumpkins, hugging it to his chest with his other hand. Ooh, look Bel was here already. He decided to settle into the workstation next to hers, giving his friend a grin. „Morning.“ After carefully setting down the pumpkin he then proceeded to put the cauldron on the tripod and set out the rest of his equipment.
What could they be doing with those pumpkins?
What could they be doing indeed? It was in the textbook, so it shouldn’t be too much of a mystery. He had done the assigned reading, yes? “Good morning, Cameron.” Noble’s gaze followed the boy to his seat next to Bel, before returning to the doorway. SPOILER!!: Derf Quote:
Originally Posted by sweetpinkpixie Derf neither excelled nor completely failed at Potions. He was quite middle of the road WHEN his attention span permitted him to, well, actually follow directions. It was the stirring that often got him - it was just hard to focus on such methodical and repetitive things, you know? But he was trying to be better and, at least so far, nothing he had been brewing in classes had blown up. Boiled over? Yeah...that had happened once or twice.
Stepping into the classroom, the Hufflepuff took a quick survey things before heading towards a station somewhere in the middle of the room somewhat near where Bel and Cameron and sorta just a hop skip and station away from Juniper. His eyes also fell on Junia, and he even offered the older girl a sheepish smile, but ultimately he was sitting a liiiiiittle further away from her than usual.
"Morning, Professor Noble," Derf greeted as he got his copper cauldron into place at his station, eyeing the pumpkins and recalling another time they had been present in lessons. Though he reckoned there wasn't going to be any bowling or smashing involved. Well, not smashing in the same sort of sense since he assumed that they were going to be ingredients somehow. He did like the idea of making pumpkin pie - which also made him think about all the creatures that enjoyed munching on pumpkins - and offered his Ravenclaw friend an amused smile. Though he seriously doubted that...maybe they were going to be working on a vision potion. Though he kept his musing to himself and fixated on getting his station set up, glancing down every now and then at his trouser pocket.
Going on previous lessons, this one had some fairly serious concentration issues. Luckily the potion in question today didn’t have too much repetitive stirring...but Noble wouldn’t be at all surprised if he had to vanish the Hufflepuff’s potion for a mistake. “Morning, Derfael.” SPOILER!!: Theo Quote:

The pumpkins were interesting since why would you need pumpkins for Potions class but well to not seem dumb he was going to keep his mouth shut and go get a pumpkin for whatever reason. Doubt they were making jack o lanterns
He grabbed his pumpkin and walked to a seat with another spaces around him so Sylvie could sit next to him or whoever.
Who was ready to accidentally blow up some potions.
Not him.
Noble thought that the kid - Héro? Tyrô? Some poncy foreign name anyway - looked rather jittery. Nervous hands and delicate formulae rarely mixed well, but the result could, at least, sometime be an educational warning to others. His gaze lingered for a moment, before moving on to the next student. SPOILER!!: Sam Quote:

The seventh-year took care to find a a nicely-shaped, almost perfectly round pumpkin and was headed for the far side of the room until he spotted a familiar head of long blonde hair. After making a detour, he found himself at the work station beside his girlfriend's. "Hey, Juni," he greeted as his placed his pumpkin on his table.
Another one who seemed to think greetings were unnecessary. But if the Gryffindor put as much care and attention into his potion as he did picking his pumpkin, then maybe he’d get some desirable results.
Maybe. SPOILER!!: Gendry Quote:

He gingerly nodded a greeting to the professor and walked over to his station and removed his copper kettle and placed it on the table.
As he set it down he recalled the command to gather a pumpkin. He went up and reached for one with a vibrant orange color and returned to his kettle.
What was it about Hufflepuffs and attention spans? Maybe he should have a word with Myers about their water supply...give them some of whatever that LOUD Gryffindor was having. Regardless, he gave the boy a nod. Yes, we see you. SPOILER!!: Skylar Quote:

Because, River Reed. It was really no offense meant to this Professor Noble (who had quite a FINE name), but River Reed was one of those who would remain a special place in the sixth year's heart and she just hoped he was doing well. Which reminded her that she still needed to send an owl to him, but she'd gotten bogged down with quidditch tryouts. Once she got situated into her sixth year routine though, she WAS going to write him.
In the meantime, she would have to try to not compare Noble to Reed. She'd achieved an Outstanding on her Potions OWL, which meant she was well on her way to being able to do creature healing. Or cursebreaking. She did note his sternness about him; he meant business which she was okay with, because her final two years here and she had to make them count. "Morning Professor Noble," she greeted, finding a seat near the front, after selecting a pumpkin. Carving pumpkins perhaps? Wasn't that more suited for charms? Or well, Juniper had said something about Pumpkin Pie just as she walked in.
Honestly, Noble didn’t give a monkey’s uncle whether she liked him or not. Here was here to teach the art of potioneering, and by hook that’s what he was going to try and do. Even if he went grey in the process. There was a snide look on his face as his replied. “Good morning.” SPOILER!!: Matt Quote:

Pumpkin juice WAS his favourite after all. "I hafta say I'm looking forward to trying whatever we're brewing today!" The seventh year exclaimed happily as he carried all of his stuff to a workstation of his choice. Middle the the room. Boom.
He spread his equipment all over the place because he felt like it, and sat there, watching, grinning and sometimes waving at the people who were coming in. He was READY to learn! And drink the pumpkin potion. YAS.
The man appreciated enthusiasm, especially when half the class still looked half asleep, but this was loud. Too loud. He didn’t need to look at the boy’s robes to know which house he was in. “Greeting me does not count an emergency, Matt,” he responded gruffly. The boy had read the rules, yes? SPOILER!!: Vi Quote:

Then she checked her work station to ensure that everything was clean and ready to go. She’d have to rinse out that Cauldron again. Not clean enough.
And then Solo came in. Vi kept an eye on that whole interaction. She wondered how the stern man would take the boisterous Matt. Heh. She smiled. This would be interesting for sure.
“Hey Sky. How’s it going?” she greeted the Slytherin Quidditch Captain with a small smile. And then she gazed at her pumpkin, wondering what they would exactly be doing with them.
“Good morning Vi.” Noble briefly registered the the student’s attentiveness to her utensils. Perhaps they weren’t all as hopeless as he’d feared. SPOILER!!: Kye Quote:

Brief pause of confusion, and she did as she was rudely instructed.
Okay that wasn't the worst thing... Grabbing a decent looking pumpkin, Kye stood awkwardly with her pumpkin balancing on her cauldron. Kye paused again looking around the room. She smiled and greeted those she knew, and quickly took a seat near the center of the room. She set her pumpkin on the table, near the burner... and then a little shift to get it slightly further from the burner. She could see that going South in just a second.
A slight frown briefly creased Noble’s forehead. This one couldn’t manage to make eye contact, much less fulfill the minimal social contract of a greeting. She’d need keeping an eye on. SPOILER!!: Jace Quote:

Upon hearing the professor, Jace closed his Alchemy book with a snap and hurried along inside the classroom with the rest of the students. "Goodmorning, Professor." he had to be honest, however, that he's pretty excited to learn from someone who breathes sternness, compared to his uncle. Last term, he'd been really awkward with the setup.
After dumping all of his stuff in one of the back workstations (because as of the moment, he didn't want to deal with an explosive Matt Solo, thank you very much), he carefully selected his pumpkin and levitated it back to his seat with ease.
Pumpkin, hm? Is it going to be their new lab rat?
Honestly, he couldn’t blame the Ravenclaw for avoiding the ridiculousness going on at the front. “Good morning, Jace.” A Reed...curious. A relation of his predecessor, perhaps? SPOILER!!: Gunnar Quote:

Even though he hadn't been up for long, the first year was wide awake, dressed in a clean uniform and carrying his supplies, as he headed into the classroom. Oh! Had he been lingering in the doorway? He certainly didn't mean to and quickly slipped inside as he heard the professor's gruff instructions. "Yes, sir... morning," he added the last as a mumbled afterthought. Rearranging the supplies in his arms so he could better carry a pumpkin as well, he grabbed one of the gourds and made his way to a seat somewhat in the middle of the room. What cool thing would they be doing today??
This kid was enthusiastic, especially when it came to ingredients, and Noble couldn’t fault that. Not when so many others in class could be so uppity about the use of non-plant materials. “Morning, Gunnar.” SPOILER!!: Maxton Quote:

If he thought he could hide at the back, Maxton was very much mistaken. She walked past the professor and took her pumpkin, "Hello professor" her finger wiggled towards him as she looked around at all the people already there. Now where was she going to sit, she looked at all the cute boys that she could sit near or she could sit by one of her girls.
Decisions.... Decisions
She stood for a moment in the front of the room until she could decide and everyone could just wait to see who the lucky person was going to be. Though her eyes did land on Derf for just a moment and she quickly moved from the front of the room and went to sit near Juniper. "Hey girl"
Oh, it was feast girl. Noble deadpanned at the strutting, soon followed by the finger wiggling. Galloping hippogriffs, could the girl just find a seat already? Grunting happened. “Good morning.” SPOILER!!: Jessa Quote:
Originally Posted by DaniDiNardo In recent years, potions had become one of her main focus areas up in her lab. She couldn't....begin....to describe...the level of hurt at having to end the potion and vanish the contents. The young girl may have chanced it by simply bringing another (a silver one) but Professor Noble seemed the sort to take notice. It was odd, y'know? Given her track record with Potions Professors, to suddenly be thrown together with one so.....................................off putting as him.
What a year to be a Prefect and need to set an example.
The brew would simply have to be restarted once she was out of this class.
Jessa entered the room, cauldron floating in behind her, nose buried deep inside her latest read. Skin texture; duplicating it. The pros and cons of varying textures, the best methods of harvesting and re-creating. It wasn't until the man opened his mouth to warn them against time wasting that the Ravenclaw even noticed him standing there by the door. Blue eyes glanced up at him only briefly before setting down to her book again. "Good morning, Professor." She muttered, distractedly flipping the page to continue. What was that about a pumpkin and a flobberworm now?
A cauldron could've exploded and she wouldn't notice (not entirely true, something like THAT would grab her attention, but for the most part, the Ravenclaw was oblivious to everything going on around her at the moment).
Thankfully, she DID catch the sight of the pumpkins from the corner of her eyes, levitating one over and into her already levitating cauldron. In all this, she didn't glance up from the pages of the old and dusty book for more than a few seconds at a time, not even when she flopped into the seat by Cameron. "Hey Cam." She muttered, ending the incantation of the floating items once they were set atop the desk.
Rat skin would be a no. Shame too, plenty of that around.
It was a good job she had indeed brought the copper cauldron, otherwise she would have briskly been sent back to get the correct one, experiment or no experiment running. It wasn’t in his lab, so he had no reason to give her special dispensation.
But it was her inattention that really got on his wick. A scowl creased across his features at her muttered greeting, and he wordlessly pulled his wand from his robes. “This is my classroom, Prefect Eagle.” And with a flick of his wand, her book snapped shut. “Bag, now. Or I’ll confiscate it for an undecided amount of time.” SPOILER!!: Tenacius Quote:

Perhaps it was another one of those strange coincidences he's been experiencing lately, but the jaunty way that his class schedule creased over this Professor's name got him to do a double take-- Ig(natius) Noble.
Hence Ace lurking in the shadows for a bit, trying to see how noble, or otherwise as the man's unfortunate first name may suggest, the new Potions Master really is. Also trying to keep that chuckling under control and not suddenly burst out into a full peal of laughter when he tries to address him by name.
His Prefect-girlfriend has entered promptly though, and he figured he better skedaddle if he wanted to be sure to take the workstation next to her.
Ahem ahem... try not to laugh, try not to grin, try not to breath "Goodmorning Professor--" and thats the most the Curly Top managed to get out before purposely biting his lips and turning his head away as he hastily collected the first pumpkin within reach, then made a beeline for the desk next to Vi.
Down goes the pumpkin on his desk. And his flushed head behind that. And laughter. Laughter so high only dogs could hear.
The Head Boy had almost made it to his seat before Noble had finished with Jessa. Almost. His eyes flashed as he saw Tenacius attempt to bite away that laugh; the pumpkin only did so much to hide it. “I suggest you wipe that snigger from your face, Mister Head Boy. Or would you like to share the joke with class?” SPOILER!!: Zoryn Quote:

..... Pumpkins? "Are we gonna be carving them, sir? 'Cause Halloween is in October," he was aware of that right? Like, it was September right now, they had a whole month. Maybe he was just confused. Which is why Zoryn said something to begin with. See, she was SUCH a kind-hearted person. Mhm.

STUPID COPPER CAULDRONS.
Shrugging off her robes and loosening her tie, Sylvie unceremoniously dumped the dumb gleaming cauldron onto the worktable and debated whether to rebel and not take a pumpkin for the second time. Phew. He'd made it just in time.
Something told him that this one had either woken up very late...or forgotten something. He’d willingly gamble a few galleons on the latter, given quite how out of breath the Ravenclaw was. As she walked through the door, she squeaked out a shy little "Hi Professor," before gathering a pumpkin and setting up at a free space.
This one had to be a firstie...nothing quite like a crisp but oversized uniform. “Good morning, Hanna.” Yes he saw her pewter cauldron, but she didn’t need to fear any of the above responses, unlike some of the older students. He knew well that first years were only expected to have pewter cauldrons, and he’d address that in a bit. SPOILER!!: Rylee Quote:

The only thing that may have stood out was the purple ribbon that had been used to tie her hair back from her face into a side braid. That being the day's use of the color purple. "Good morning, Professor!," she chirped cheerfully not at all fazed by the older man's instructions of 'not to linger in the doorway' and such. This girl was NOT lingering in any way, shape of form. Nope. No lingering from her.
Finding an empty workstation somewhere near the front wasn't to easily done since the room seemed to be rather full, so she settled for the first available spot she saw. Setting her bag down on the floor by the chair and her cauldron down onto the tripod she hurried on over to get a pumpkin and bring it back to her work place. She hadn't wanted to risk dropping the pumpkin by going to get first.
Setting the pumpkin down on the table, Rylee than went about taking out a parchment and her quill and ink (purple) while waiting for Professor Noble to explain what they would be brewing today.
Ah, a note taker! Not that he expected students to, during practicals. He much preferred them to concentrate on what was going on in their cauldron. “Good morning, Rylee.” SPOILER!!: Jessi Quote:

Wait, was she late? It seemed as if the entire school was already in class. It took a while for a little person to make it from the Gryffindor Common Room to the dungeons. Anyway, she was hear now and ready to learn more about potions. Following the instructions, Jessi got a pumpkin and made her way to an empty seat. She sat down and got her supplies ready, as class would surely be starting soon.
Hopefully this one was as good with her potions as she was enthusiastic...because she was overflowing with the latte. “Hello, Jessi.” SPOILER!!: Miranda Quote:

OH!.. She was a lingerer.. Oops!
Exit stage left as she makes her way to a spot somewhere in the middle of the room and pulled from her bag her copper cauldron and set it in the tripod that was provided. She turned and waved to a few familiar faces as they all waited for the class to begin.
She was both a lingerer AND an overtalker. Noble groaned and rolled his eyes. “Pumpkin, seat, now!” SPOILER!!: Kirk Quote:

Quite stern, but that didn't phase him, he was use to the motions as he grabbed a pumpkin before going to choose a cauldron. Hm.. He could save a spot for Mel until she makes it in, a slight grin emerging from the idea. Anyone else who caught the Captain's eyes, he gave you a sup nod on the way towards the back.
Ah, the Ravenclaw Captain didn’t have any problems making eye contact. Noble nodded in greeting. “Good morning, Kirk.” SPOILER!!: Emma Quote:

The not-so-cool thing about them was that you were SO FAR AWAY from all the other classes she had to take, the FURTHEST walk being to potions. Even when she ran FULL SPEED - which she did all the time - you still had a super long way to go and it made Em tired every single time she had to do it.
Okay, so she just had done it this ONE time since this was the first class BUT STILL IT WAS A LOT. Her little legs could only carry her so far for so long. It was a good thing the kitchens were nearby or she would have to take a BIGGER detour to get her some juice for refueling purposes.
Only after she did all of that did she FINALLY make it to class on time. "Hiya, professor!" What was his name again? Emma had to THINK on that, but she never did get around to actually calling him by said name when she remembered it for all the waving to her friends she did, and picking out her seat somewhere in the middle. She pulled her satchel off her shoulders and put on her READY face for the lesson.
Was there a fly buzzing around his classroom that Emma was trying to swat away? Because really, why else would she need to WAVE at all the people she saw at breakfast? He gave a derisive snort. “Do you need a fly swat, Emma?” SPOILER!!: June Quote:

There just was something about making the little quiet ones jump… ahem. But he was impressed by her choice of front row seat and organisation. Promising indeed... SPOILER!!: Ronan Quote:

Didn't professors read those anymore? Also, what kind of potion required a whole pumpkin anyway? Sigh. Maybe he should've followed his instincts and just skipped this class. It wasn't as if he was going to need it in his future career anyway.
And yes, he did have his copper cauldron, thank you very much again.
An allergy? Noble remained unphased. “Then I suggest you man up, and put some dragon hide gloves on. There’s lab coats by the door. I'm not asking you to consume it.” SPOILER!!: Night Quote:

She'd followed some stragglers down the stairs and made her way to the potions classroom. Why was she the only student with three cauldrons? Well, maybe others had more, but back in their dormitories?
Scanning the room, she noticed Emmalyn sitting alone and went to join her fellow first year. "Hey, Emmalyn. You look nervous." It was too early in the morning to try and talk to anyone new, and besides, most people already had their friends.
She placed her copper cauldron on the desk (and her pewter and bronze ones below) and grabbed a small, round pumpkin off the main table.
Quite why Night had brought three different cauldrons with her, he had no idea. But if she wanted to haul them along from the Hufflepuff dorms...well he supposed that was her prerogative. He wouldn’t offer to help take them back though. SPOILER!!: Amara Quote:

As she walked in, she looked at the Professor looming at the front of the class. "Good morning, Professor Noble" That's what the Headmistress had introduced him by at the feast. "Nice and shiny orbs you've got there!" She took a second to admire them, "Livens the whole place" It did. And with that Amara walked into the class, searching for a familiar face among the already present.

The professor was scary. Not just stern and strict, but SCARRRRRRRY SCARY. The most intense type of scary a professor can be. In Maddie's eyes, he lingered like a dementor watching over the class as they filed into his classroom. She mentally reviewed all his rules and double-checked her uniform to make sure it was in tip top shape. IT WAS. She tried to walk into the room as proper as she could, but she was so frightened that she ended up resembling a stiff piece of plywood making its way to a desk.
Hearing one of the older kids greet the man, Maddie decided to do the same. "Hello, Professor Noble," she said, with a hint of shakiness in her tone. She selected a cute little pumpkin then took a seat.
No, she wasn’t last. But Noble had spied her lingering through the crack of the door’s hinges, and wasn’t impressed by it. “Good morning, Maddie.” SPOILER!!: Patrick Quote:

He hadn't done bad last term, but it was a new term and a new professor.
He looked around the room spotting a seat toward the back, both seats were empty which meant that he was going to have to figure it out on his own he assumed. Thankfully he had remembered to have his copper cauldron today. That could have been a lot worse. He was hoping that someone would at least sit beside him so he would have a friend or something. "Hi Professor." He said quietly hoping to not draw too much attention to himself as he sat down awaiting the lessons start. He was watching everyone in the classroom trying to figure out the dynamic of the term.
If he was hoping to hide behind a partner, Patrick was much mistaken. They’d be working alone for the best part of today’s lesson. And Noble always knew when someone didn’t pull their weight. “Good day, Patrick.” SPOILER!!: Olivia Quote:

Hmph. Where. Was. Jace?
Scanning the unusually bright room, Liv caught sight of him almost immediately. He was situated at the back, and she was relieved that joining him wouldn't require too much moving about. Not that she wanted to harass him about his uncle, but.... Well, maybe she did want to harass him a little. Her relationship with the Reed men was an interesting one.
Stopping to select a random pumpkin from the pile (because they were all more of the same, right?), Olivia proceeded to Jace's workstation. Before he could say anything against it, she parked her things, seating herself as if she owned the very workstation. As was her way. "You don't mind if I sit here, do you?" Cue the innocent look.
Oh....also. "Professor, I approve of the orbs. This place needed a bit of illumination." Mhm. She would admit, if asked, that the necessity of copper cauldrons was highly intriguing.

Setting her pumpkin on her desk, she smiled at a few of her friends before pulling out her textbook. She started to read as she waited for class to officially begin.

Either way, she’d dragged her feet on her walk down to the dungeons for the lesson in question, and given the professor a sort of tilted head curious look at how he’d spoken to them all. Although, the pumpkin thing had given her the tiniest bit of hope that they wouldn’t be doing anything with blood or other creature body parts. “Good morning Professor Noble,” she’d still said, picking out a pumpkin from what remained in the pile and heading for an open seat. "Hello Professor Noble" he said politely eventhough he wasn't sure if he liked him. He looked like he had eaten a sour grape over at breakfast and was still tasting it.
With the greeting out of the way, the Ravenclaw found himself a seat near the front of the classroom. He was here to learn after all.
Sour grapes for breakfast? Pfft. He was a fry up kind of man. “Hello, Dorian,” he greeted the Ravenclaw. SPOILER!!: Vivan Quote:

Vivian entered the class room and offered a small smile to the professor. "Morning, professor," the prefect greeted him and went to take her usual seat beside Skylar. They probably still felt the same way about not having Reed around. But hey, at least she wasn't late.
“Morning, Vivian.” She did have her cauldron and supplies, yes? Because she might want to get them out and pronto. Noble didn’t like to be held up in starting class for any reason. SPOILER!!: Alyce Quote:

He heard that sigh, and grumbled under his breath. Noble didn’t mind strugglers in his class, as long as they tried. He gave a nod, before looking to the next student.

She found herself randomly craving pumpkin soup and made a quick mental note to stop by the kitchens afterwards. "Good morning, Professor... Sir." Finally, with a deep breath, she put down the pumpkin on the table and addressed her: "Sorry to bother you... Can I sit here? Is the seat taken?" she asked with a smile, trying to convince herself she was confident enough to survive her first Potions lesson.
She might have been lost, but she’d made it just in time. Noble was already pulling his wand from his robes to shut the door.

Farah scanned the desk really quick and then pulled out her cauldron. Only it wasn't the copper one. She grabbed her quill and parchment paper and placed them on her desk before looking around and noticing... others had their copper cauldron out.
Well alrighty then.
It was a good thing that Farah just happened to have that one with her. Switching the two, she stuck the other cauldron in her bag. Now she was ready for class.
Was it busy? He hadn’t particularly noticed until Farah had to excuse her way across the classroom. Did that mean his odds of not having a classroom of complete failures were increased? Unlikely, but he’d take it. “Good morning, Farah,” he greeted once she’d finally realised the correct cauldron. SPOILER!!: Cassie Quote:

So much for getting a quick start this morning but at least she wasn’t late.
The Ravenclaw set her pumpkin down before her on the desk before her school bag beside it. From within, she took out her cauldron…her copper one…and set it on the waiting tripod. Then came the parchment and quill for notes and recipes to be written down upon There, she was all set for now to await the beginning of the lesson. She might not need this class but she was still very much interested in learning what she could.
Another organised one; though perhaps he should expect nothing less from a Ravenclaw 7th year...even if she didn’t need his class. No manners in the form of eye contact or a greeting though, so she got a scathing look until his gaze was drawn back to a certain Master Botros. SPOILER!!: Abra Quote:
Originally Posted by Felixir Speaking of night owls, Abraham Botros Jr. was present and correct, though definitely exhausted and in need of sleep after having spent an unnecessary amount of time staying up the night before working on in his sketchbook (you couldn't just STOP halfway through when you were on a roll, okay?). He had knowing that it would be better to get some sleep the night before a Potions class, given he was absolutely appalling at the best of times it for approximately a million reasons, but Abra wasn't really the sort to get to sleep any time before 2am, so it seemed like a waste of good drawing time to even try.
By the time he'd reached the actual classroom, however, as well as being tired Abra was also anxious (because of course he was), which wasn't exactly a wonderful combination. Avoiding looking directly at Professor Noble, who sort of put him on edge just a little bit, he mumbled a nevertheless polite, "G'morningProfessor," and quickened his pace to hurry inside. As he was about to head towards the table of pumpkins, however, his eyes fell on Derf.
All at once Abra got that uncomfortable squirmy feeling in his stomach, which had been an issue since the events of the Start-of-Term Feast, especially in the context of all things Derf (not that he'd mentioned it to him at all). Even though he should have been prepared for it, given this was a lesson he knew they'd both be present in, it still threw him off his already shaky groove. Given Derfael and Professor Noble and the stress of Potions class and the aforementioned tiredness-anxiety combination, Abra had a wobbly moment and stopped right where he was to try and process things. Two seconds later (which actually felt more like a minutes or hours or months or years or decades or cENTURIES) he caught sight of Junia and immediately started off again in her direction, before settling into the empty seat beside her.
... And totally forgetting to grab a pumpkin in the process. Quote:
Originally Posted by Felixir If 'mentally dishevelled' was a real thing, that pretty much summed up Abra right about now. At least more than when he'd sort of hesitated right at the moment that he was stood there right in front of everyone where all of their EYES could SEE him. With their EYES.
But yes. Junia. Abra found it easy to smile at her and also to whisper a greeting back. "Hi. Oh..." The 'oh' part was concerning the pumpkin, because with Junia sliding hers across to him, he suddenly remembered what he had forgotten. Once she was back, he gave her a look of sincere gratitude. "Thank you, Junebug."
And then he shut up, because there were certain teachers from whom he got the impression that even just a little bit of talking would not be met well, and Professor Noble was one of those.
Except that not talking meant more time for looking, and also for noticing. And when he looked, and noticed, he saw and realised something had happened which made him stand out from the others.
Something that he had done, or, it seemed, had failed to do. He wasn't the only one, but he was definitely in the minority, and so the moment Abra realised that almost everyone else had a copper cauldron with him, but that it was his pewter one that he had set on his desk, his eyes widened in pure, unadulterated horror. He'd missed an announcement, had been overlooked in an important memo, was oblivious to a widely known Potions-related rumour, or perhaps had just not read the lesson requirements properly. The result was the same nonetheless; he had turned up to Potions class unprepared.
Abra's life flashed before his eyes.
The end was nigh.
He’d spotted the Gryffindor’s error, and had been waiting, watching, for the moment in which he’d finally notice. It’d had been tempting to make him run get the correct one, but at this point, that would be more of a disturbance.
“Three points from Gryffindor, Abraham. Pay better attention to your schedule in future, as next time I won’t be so lenient…”
And he meant it.
“For now go get one from the cupboard.” Which reminded him, there were others in the room who didn’t have a copper cauldron because their supplies list hadn’t instructed them to bring one. The first and second years. “First and second years, you too can go get a copper cauldron if you haven’t one of your own.”
But now it was time to start. Ignatius flicked his wand in the direction of the door to shut it and block out the chatter of students headed to and from the Slytherin Common room outside. Rounding the front desk to the blackboard, he picked up his wooden pointing stick, and banged it LOUDLY on the desk to get everyone’s attention. “Right then you miserable lot...today we will be making the Pompion Potion, as some of you might have guessed from the pumpkins Professor Myers provided.” He doubted it though. He wrote the title on the blackboard as he spoke, underlining it with a flourish of chalk. “Turns head into pumpkin, and has a brewing time of around 50 minutes, so I suggest we hop to it unless you want to stay over morning break.”
And he certainly didn’t.
“Usually, we’d just chop the pumpkin any which way and scoop it out, but given the time of year…please carefully use diffindo to make a circle around the stalk like so.” Holding up his pumpkin and wand so they could see, he demonstrated what he meant. “Diffindo!” he cast, before directing his wand in a circle around the top of the pumpkin. If any of them had carved Jack-o-lanterns before, it would look like he was cutting out a lid. Because that’s exactly what he was doing. Even if he felt no need to get them all excited just yet and confirm they’d get to carve their pumpkins before the end of the lesson.
Returning the wand to his holster, he lifted up the small circle to show them the result. “Once you’ve got this off, put it to one side. We don’t need it just yet.” He did so, and picked up a tablespoon. “We need to scoop out the insides. Put the seeds to one side, and add two densely packed cups of pulp into your cauldron over a medium heat.” Fortunately the pumpkin he was using didn’t have too many seeds, and before long he’d got it prepped, measured and in the cauldron. He hoped they were paying attention; he liked to teach by showing, not just telling.
“It’s vital you get all the seeds out, so check thoroughly...using your fingers if necessary. You may use incendio to light your burner, or carefully come light a splint from my bunsen at the front. If you haven’t used diffindo before, put up your hand and I or one of the older students will help.”
Hint hint, older students.
And with that, he started writing the first steps of the recipe on the board for reference. Quote:
