Face going a bit pale, he supposed that his Head of House had meant it to be a kind gesture...but all the fourteen year old could think about was that his Head of House had seen TOO. And then the letter poofed into house colored smoke, leaving the newly badged prefect coughing a bit and waving his hand in front his face to push the smoke away. Mortified, he dared glance up at the staff dais - though Daisy's voice preventing him from giving the man any meaningful look. "Nah, I'm alright," he tried to assure his friend. HE was supposed to be worrying about HER. "Just a bump." And of course, he couldn't help but comment on the conversation she was having with Emmalyn about what prefects did.
It was a welcomed distraction. Sorta. Even if right now he didn't want to think about being a prefect and just wanted to go talk to two of the most important people at Hogwarts to him.
"You make us sound like dementors sent to suck the fun out of things," he teased her, his slightly impish grin hopefully signaling that he wasn't being all THAT serious. Especially considering how much mischief he himself was always up to - intentional or not. "We do loads more than just discipline stuff. Coming up with activities and parties for use to do as a house and stuff. Leading study sessions too. I wanna do some chocolate frog trading stuff too...and and..." Well...he supposed he couldn't REALLY talk about that stuff yet. "Well...I reckon there will be some neat things in the common room this term." Since Professor Dark Lord Myers had asked him and Etta for their input. But he was kinda sorta rambling. "I just mean that...you know...we aren't just around to be Aurors hunting down bad behavior, you know? We're more of an official resource, however you may need us...and yeah."
Emmalyn sat, wide eyed, not even trying to remove the half puzzled half startled look off her face as the events unfolded around her. She knew there was no way she would be stepping even one little toe out of line if an embarrassing thing like that might happen to her. She wondered what she had gotten herself into. Magical school. She wondered if her father may have been right after all.
Furthering her resolve to be the best little Hufflepuff she could be, Emmalyn addressed the Prefect.
"I didn't mean any disrespect to you or what you do. I do hope I haven't offended you. I was simply curious." She whipped out her sweetest smile and tilted her head every so slightly to the side. Emmalyn made a mental note to figure out how to get, and stay, on Durf's good side.
