And maybe some other sweets as well. Sugarquills were starting to grow on him.
Ruffling his hair as he strolled - his incorrect but correct in essence badge pinned to his robes although somewhat hidden by his arm that had crossed over his front - the fourth year's attention was first caught by a group of familiar faces. Bright blues instantly fell on Natalie and his smile widened a bit. Even more so when he saw she was talking with Bel and Juniper too. "Hey," he chirped in greeting, raising his hand up high to draw some extra attention his way since there was a gathering crowd around the trolley by this point. "Juniper, Bel! Good summers I hope?" He'd written to Bel a few times but hadn't extended the same courtesy to Juniper and felt guilty about that. Giving his hair one last ruffle, he turned towards Natalie with a sheepish smile. "Did I...er...leave um... anything at your house when I stayed over?"
Actually...this was something he should probably be asking Liam. For reasons.
Too late now though.
Cheeks slightly flushed, Derf averted his eyes a moment and happened upon Anastasie talking to Kimi not too far off - and no, he had not put together that she was related to the crup-in-training named Flynn - and offered them both a wave. His eyes did linger on the Slytherin's hair for a time and while he couldn't properly see it's color...it was still beautiful. Also reminded him one the one and only Alice Lupin who he needed to write to again soon.
Catching himself staring fondly at the color - phoenix shade, you know, it was alluring! - his eyes wandered to...well...another phoenix haired girl in Alyce. He had never spoken to her properly before, but he WAS an admirer of her hair so...that was something. Right?
And now he was kinda staring at her hair. Oops. Quote:

Natalie turned back just in time to see Bel halt just beside them. Natalie had decided that she liked Bel. She didn't know her much, but she was glad she and Liam had something in common and she seemed to increase Liam's confidence in his surfing hobby. So, she liked her.
Natalie, too had not changed into her robes and was still trying to cling onto the last of the summer weather by wearing a sundress. Her mother had told her not to because it was likely to rain, but her own argument was that they would be on the train the whole time so it didn't matter.
Good hols, though. Hols? Holidays? Yeah, she was gonna guess that. "Yeah, it was good," she replied with a small smile. She had spent a lot of time playing at the beach and watching Liam surf, so she had gotten a light tan. "What about you guys?" she asked, then looking at Juni to see how hers was, too. Quote:

It wasn’t until she heard the sound of wheels somewhere behind her that she realized that someone had gotten behind her. She slipped her money back into her pocket. As she turned around to see Bel behind her as well as Nat, Liam’s twin sister. This wasn’t going to be awkward right? Zita was her friend too. Honestly she was just hoping to stay out of the whole thing anyway. Nat seemed okay though like Bel she didn’t have much interaction with the girls. ”Mine was great. Too short though.” With a little grin. It has seemed to fly by this summer.
That was when Derf joined them. Suddenly Juni started to feel bad. She has almost forgotten how good of friends her and Derf used to be.”Hey Derf. Yeah one of the best. How was yours?” It was sad how friendships drifted as you got older. She decided that she wasn’t going to let that happen to them.
O_O
What do he say again? She glanced over at the others and held a giggle in. Okayyy. She did not want to know. As much as Bel obviously was more focused on her own very excellent, very short, very over, summer, she was incredibly pleased to hear that Juni and Nat also had good summer hols, and had no particular reason to believe they'd say so but it not actually be true. "Its always too short!" She agreed very much with Juni there, and smiled excitedly at Nat. She knew at least part of the other girl's good summer, if it was about Liam and the surfing and generally spending time on the beach. Wasn't that ALWAYS the best? She opened her mouth again to speak just as Derfael showed up. "Oh, Hi D! Hi!" What was he looking at? Anyway, she was about to interrupt his staring-at-who-even-knew-what with a hug. A quick hug which was more of an exuberant squish right when he was asking if he'd left something with Nat? "You stayed with Nat and Liam too? Isn't their house cool? Its right on the beach, right where ALL houses should be." So was her own, of course, but credit where credit was due right? She herself hadn't stayed over, but had spent long days on said beach for surfing reasons. Practice made perfect and also practice was fun.
Hopefully they were nearly at the front of the queue now... Quote:

It was a rather low growl. Amara immediately took her hands off the cart and took a few steps back. She surveyed the surroundings. The few people at the distance were still engrossed in their conversations. Woah, they must have had one hell of a vacation! Or they were just that ignorant. Or was she that good? Hehe
Satisfied that she was unnoticed and hoping no one would, Amara slowly and stealthily pushed the cart. Inch by inch, away from this ignorant crowd and towards the front cars side. Where food of this kind will be worshiped. Given it's rightful place in history. Wait! "Hey!" Bel protested, not unkindly, when she heard and saw the attempted trolley cart theft. Where the trolley lady had suddenly snuck off to Bel had no idea, but even trolley ladies had bladders to contend with, and being old and everything probably meant hers needed frequent attention, so Bel could forgive the sudden absence. "We're all queuing here, you have to get in line! I thought this country invented lining up for stuff?" Baffling to a degree. Honestly Bel was pretty sure she'd seen queues in the UK for nothing, where people just joined them because they were queues and it was in their make up to do so.
And thankfully one of the older girls was intervening with strength of foot and also with an air of authority that Bel wasn't particularly familiar with but curious about.
She really didn't want to be queuing for nothing, even if it was in good company. Bel wanted her turn and wanted everyone to get their fair turn. So she shifted her pennyboard to under her other arm and watched to see what the first year would do next.
