Wowza! In truth, Nerissa hadn't planned to hold any sort of conversation with the older girl. When she'd said 'how do you do' she hadn't expected anything beyond a simple nod, or a smile, or a polite hello. A little surprised, she stood there for a couple of seconds, watching, before managing to procure a response for the girl. "Hello." That did not seem sufficient. She tried again. "I am well." Or overwhelmed. "Thank you."
Appropriate, yes?
She cut a glance at the selection of toppingws before them and then back at the girl. Then back at Flavia, her au pair, who waited outside. "I am not very sure what I want yet." Other than ice cream itself, that is. "I would like something that--if it falls on my clothes, it would be quick and easy to remove."b Her frown was mild, and she rubbed one hand to her forehead, as if trying to smooth it down. It almost worked. It was not polite to frown in proper company; not that Nerissa knew if the girl was proper company, but she looked like the type. All the blonde hair and manners; she was sure mama would call her 'proper.' Anyway, it was always good to be sure, just in case. "What would you recommend?"
