Stacie was unsure what to say. She didn’t know anyone at the meeting, and she didn’t even work with Portkeys. She was a Carpet Regulations Specialist!
She went over to get coffee. She hadn’t been expecting her first proper job to go like this. Stacie fussed with her blonde hair while her cup filled with coffee. The smell of coffee was like a hug.
“I’ll take the overtime,” She said, turning to Lynley. “I’m on carpets though, but if you need extra hands anywhere.” Stacie shuddered inside. She didn’t want to be the newbie sucking up to the Head of Department. But when you’re new at a job, and young and experienced into the bargain, you didn’t have much choice. She didn’t want to look too complacent.
Stacie studied Lynley. “You should have a rest. Soft music and a hot tea. You’ll be able to come up with good ideas when you’ve had chance to calm down. You’ve had a massive shock.”
Apart from taking care of people, Stacie didn’t know what else to do. She didn’t have any epic ideas of how to catch a Muggle killer. “Are MLE working with the Muggle Prime Minister? They could spin something about a virus in apparently discarded phones and things.” Being Muggleborn, Stacie knew what Muggles would believe and how quickly news spread in their world. She even had sneaky social media accounts herself. “I’m on social media, I could post something.” She glanced around, blushing. “My family.” As soon as she said the word she realised. “God, how could I be so selfish!” She started cracking her thumb joint. “I need to warn them. They live in London. What if they pick up…? What about the kids? My sister...” Her stomach was sinking through the floor. A lump in her throat made her eyes well up.
