Gaston beamed back at Miss Paton as she answered him, but his face fell slightly as Phantom dashed the girl's hopes of petting her. He was about to give the feisty feline a reprimanding look, but he changed his mind when Miss Paton laughed. He laughed along with her.
"Indeed they do," he replied.
He watched as Phantom made tried to dive bomb the fly, but it flew away at the last minute, causing her to land clumsily on her front paws. He shook his head. Then he got an idea how to get Phantom to leave the fly alone and come say hi. He turned his full attention to Miss Paton.
"So are you having a good term so far?" he asked, not looking back at the black and white Persian as she continued to ham it up. If he ignored her long enough, she'd get jealous and demand attention.
