Kyle kept moving forward, still deeper into the cave. His mind was no longer on the challenge, and what he might be expected to do next, but on getting himself and his grandmother as far into the cave and as far as he possibly could from the wind and the cold that reigned outside.
Until, that was, Kyle found himself no longer in a cave at all, but a room. He blinked at his surroundings, swaying a little, and when a woman (who had apparently been waiting here) approached him, he held onto his grandmother still more tightly. The move was protective, distrusting. The people behind this challenge had put her in that cage in the first place, and despite knowing that the challenge must be over, Kyle found it difficult to believe that they would take proper care of her now.
The warm had by now enveloped Kyle, making him feel much better than he had before. His exhaustion, however, was not so easily fixed, nor was Kyle's reluctance to leave his grandmother.
And so he did not. Not at first, anyway. Instead, he stuck close to his grand-maman, ignoring the man and his instructions to head through the door. He found he cared very little to find out any scores, especially at this moment in time. Kyle cared more about making sure that his grand-maman would be okay, and now that he was free from the challenge, he could feel anger starting to rise up inside of him. All he could think of was the sight of her, sitting in that cage, almost frozen...
Ironically, it made his blood boil.
Perhaps she sensed this, or at least... she sensed something. Remaining calm, calmer than he had ever seen the usually exuberant and flamboyant woman, Everleigh Desjardins took Kyle's hands in her own - removing the gloves from both of them first - and looked him clear in the eye. She muttered something to him, a few whispered assurances in French, while she held his gaze. Kyle stared back at her for a moment, his eyes fierce, breathing heavily... until his expression softened just the slightest amount, and he nodded.
After a smile from his grandmother, and an affectionate pat on the cheek, Kyle finally released her, took a step back, and turned to the door. Still without a word, he pulled off all of the transfigured clothing that he had not entered the challenge with, before heading out to the stands.
