Derf honestly had no idea what to expect in this duel, but if he had learned anything last year it was to always expect the unexpected. Too bad he didn't even know what TO expect so it was kinda hard to know whether or not it was unexpected, you know? But he liked Faith and found himself faced with a similar moral dilemma he had when dueling Abey last term. HOW did you duel a FRIEND? He hadn't really had this problem when dueling Kane...because he hadn't really KNOWN Kane and also he was a full year older. But this was FAITH!

Bounding up on to the stage, Derf waited for Faith before bowing all politely and such and then took on his ready dueling position. Ladies first? It was not that he also realized he had never dueled a GIRL classmate before. And while Derf did not really see the need to treat her any different than he had Abey or Kane or Simon in a duel...something FELT different. He couldn't really put his finger on it though.

Anyway. Focus. He could do that. Maybe. He already knew ONE spell he was going to cast...because he always did. But once...just ONCE in his life could it actually hit?! Opting with some sort of distraction to start, Derf sent a Rictusempra at his friend first. That was relatively harmless, you know? Plus Faith had a REALLY nice laugh, in case anyone was curious to know. He quickly followed this one up with his signature AND the one spell that he could actually get through without stuttering over the incantation despite all the 's' sounds. "Slugulus Eructo!"
