He gave a deep, irritated groan as he removed the charm and closed his book rather forcefully. With a sour look on his face, his eyes glanced around the room at these noise-makers. Blue eyes fell upon a nearby Blaise, though, then to the unused wizard's chess board on the table before them. That could be a distraction. Or an attempt at one. But Blaise seemed busy speaking to his quill.

Sam slumped back in his armchair, and when there was a lull in Blaise's words that at least resembled the close of his dictation, Sam spoke. "Are you recording all that for yourself or for a letter to someone?"
The pause was a direct result of his inability to remember exactly what it was someone had said to him during History of Magic. Shame too, it'd been proper funny when he'd heard it but now, not for the life of him would the words replay in his head. This was why he preferred to have his quill on hand recording at all times. Never knew when you were going to be needing some of that information.

The boy's brows creased in concentration, though any hope he had of catching that train of thought was quickly dashed when Sam's voice cut into his concentration. Brown eyes shifted to meet til the met the blue of his housemate. They lingered only a moment before looking to his quill again, gesturing it to continue it's recording of whatever it heard. "For myself. I send some to my mum depending on how horrible my quill can get 'em sounding but for the most part it's for my own amusement."

He liked the way his quill could take a perfectly normal situation and turn it into something straight out of a dysfunctional sitcom. Kept him sane on days he'd otherwise expire from boredom.

"I may have it copy down that notice the Headmistress gave the next time I'm out of the Common Room for kicks." Both because of how potentially interesting it could end up and because something like THAT could maybe...hopefully...kinda make his mum let him leave early. Never knew til you tried right? The Fifth Year took notice of the book Sam had slammed seconds ago. "Homework?" In the noisiest of all the Common Rooms?
