Eddie Redmayne: I met David Yates 6-7 months before we started filming. He really gave me free rein, so I went about it by meeting people from the zoologist world - meeting trackers. They would talk passionately about their techniques and their methods.

I then went to safari parks, and met with the people who deal with the breeding of animals. It was interesting what it brought - the physical elements to Newt, seeing how these trackers walk when they're trying to pursue an animal.

They have to be incredibly silent, when they are either on the floor or when they're walking, their feet are turned out. They lift one leg and place it exactly where you want it. There's a kind of open stance, and it was something I adopted.

Colleen Atwood: My first character that I designed was Newt. I started with his movement, so everything was designed to work with the character he was creating physically, as well as aesthetically.

When he has to blend with the real world, the trick of using the silhouette in the real world, and making his clothes sort of mismatched to give a feeling of quirkiness. He's a character that came from living in the wilderness; he adapts everything to what he needs.
