Men either had ex wives and kids and too many things going on, or they seemed to disappear after a couple dates. It was depressing, this fact. She was old and going to die alone. Surely.
The only thing that dragged Eva from her pity party was the mention of daycare and visiting. Aww that was nice. "That sounds lovely. How old is he?" It was no secret that not only was the older lady a bit out of touch from time to time, she also tended to forget things. A lot of things. BUT it was nothing to do with her age. Nope. She had always been the forgetful sort.
"No need to apologize," she said with a shrug of her slender shoulders. "I have been guilty of it myself. Especially since I can't hear from the other ear properly." Which was also not a secret. "Fancy something something to eat?" she asked suddenly? Why not eat her feelings today? Lynley knew Eva was another older single lady like herself. She didn't remember exactly how old Eva was off the top of her head...but the woman looked older? Lynley had no qualms about thinking that. She thought she looked pretty good for Thirty-six? Was she thirty-six now? You stopped counting after the big THREE OH. At least, she had.
Did she have any idea that this bothered Eva, the single thing? No. But she would have understood if Eva had divulged the information to her.
"Wyatt is...he's four now, actually," she grinned. "Turned four a month ago." Her parents had gone all out, too, with their little shindig for him. "I will probably send him to primary school starting next Fall..." she sighed a little. How could her son be A YEAR OLDER THAN WHEN SHE MET HIM ALREADY? He was already doing this growing up thing too quickly! "Which one is the troublesome one?" she asked, looking at both of the woman's ears. "I always forget, I'm so sorry. I'd make more of an effort to not speak to the troublesome one." Because that must be super frustrating. "I'd love food....should we go somewhere or..." she stood up to go check to see if THEY had any food. Not.......really. A huge bag of crisps...that was about.....it. -_-
