She dipped one stone at a time into the lake and scrubbed the dirt off them carefully. Professor had said super clean. Super clean it shall be. After washing them individually, she took them collectively and gave a final dip to remove the residue dirt, if any. Slate did, in fact, not know the incantation. Nor did he feel like listening to any of the older students. Why? Because teachers got paid to teach him something. So he'd continue to not know the spell until a Professor taught it to him in class.
So, he followed the girl to the lake and rinsed off the stone. He lightly rubbed them with his fingers under the water and figured that was good enough. There wouldn't be that much dirt that was on it, right? Quote:

He could do that. It just seemed kind of counter productive. Quote:

Now she had wet stones and... oh the water looks so cold.
Me poor legs. Slate grabbed his textbook then followed the girls out into the lake more. He rolled his trousers up as he walked so he wouldn't be completely wet later. That wouldn't be pleasant. Once they reached a spot he unceremoniously dropped the round stone. He watched it splash into the water, causing ripples and water droplets to pop back and fall back down.

Was he supposed to be seeing something?
He consulted his textbook. Circles and dots. ... erm?
He leaned over and whispered "Either I'm doing something wrong, or I might be pregnant." But it was probably the first.
But hey. There was... a ... squid? That was a squid right? Could he drop the next stone and say that that was what he saw? What would be the chances the Professor would know that's what he'd done?
