What am I doing here? Gaston thought as he entered the dueling arena. He'd always been the worst dueler in his year when he was in school, so what in Merlin's name possessed him to sign up for the dueling club?! Maybe he thought it would help him improve his skills... or maybe he just wanted to prove he wasn't the shrinking violet everyone thought he was.

His heart dropped when he saw who he was matched with. Rosalyn... He couldn't do this! There was no way he'd ever bring himself to hex her, even if it was supposed to be all in fun. All he could do was stare like a deer in the headlights until her voice jerked him back to reality. "Y-yes, good luck," he stammered, bowing to her.

Gaston's expression hardened when he saw his other opponent. What, he was supposed to fight two people?! That was unexpected... though he supposed there must've been an odd number of professors signed up. He set his jaw, determined not to let any emotion show on his face as he turned to Viktor. "And good luck to you too," he said with another bow, his eyes straying to Viktor's wand; he half-expected an attack at any moment!

His hand tightened around his wand, but before he could cast the spell he had planned, another spell came at him...from the opposite direction than expected. "Protego!" Gaston exclaimed as he wheeled around, instinctively deflecting the spell back. I'm sorry Rosalyn, he thought. I just don't want to look like an easy target!

He shot her a quick guilty glance before rounding on Viktor. It seemed a bit unsporting to attack when Rosalyn had already sent a spell at him, but he pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind. Somehow he didn't think he'd get the same consideration... "Obscuro!"
