"YES! Indeed we are making Babbling Beverage," he said, with a big grin, to those who guessed correctly.

Mr Baltazar was on the correct path, and Art was nodding with a smile as he was speaking. "Very close!" he said.

Mr Chev had an interesting guess. "Very interesting Mr Chev, no that's not why... but that's very interesting." He jotted down what Mr Chev had said in his notebook, for something to look into. Very interesting indeed.

He grinned at Miss R. Botros' guess. "Indeed! Yes, indeed!" He was very happy. "I'll explain why in a minute," he said, giving everyone a chance to speak.

He gave a smile at Miss Franks-Mundie's answer. "Well... it might. I'll look into that and let you know, unless you'd like to take it on as an extra credit project?" he asked. He was curious too. He couldn't remember the last time he had tasted the original Babbling Beverage. At least 20 years ago.

Mr Reed was thinking along the right lines, "Not quite Mr Reed, the very opposite of what you're thinking, but you're on the right path." Analysis of the ingredients was an impressive skill, especially in a third year.

"YES Miss Andrews," Art said with a very large smile. He'd broaden on why this was correct in a moment.

Mr Salander hit the nail on the head! "Indeed Mr Salander! Indeed!" he said happily.

Miss Paton's suggestion had him thinking. "Hmm. I don't quite know Miss Paton. That's not why we're adding it today but... hmm... I'll have to look into that. A very impressive thought." Yes, indeed it was. He jotted this down into his notebook too. "I'll look into that and let you know! Unless you'd like to help?" He'd certainly facilitate students puting their hypotheses into a test.

Mr Park was not quite right but not too far off either. "You're on the right path Mr Park. It doens't reverse the effect, but it limits the duration." Very close!

Art smiled at Mr Solo's guess. "Well... if one is allergic to an ingredient, it does lessen the allergic side effects, yes."

But half way through, one of the dear Hufflepuffs entered late. "Thank you for joining us M-Miss Blaze, but... it-it would be nice if you could come on time. Five points from Hufflepuff," he said. He hated taking points, but he also didn't want people to start rocking up late.

"Yes Miss McNally!" He said, waiting, again, for other responses before he expanded on the answers.

And another one! "Yes Miss Reynolds, correct!"

Art saw Mr Prince jot some things down in his notebook. Of course the man respected his silence, but he was very curious to see what he was writing. No doubt some very good theories that Art, himself, might not have thought of, or perhaps even the spot on answer to his question.

"Ahh not quite Miss Duchannes," Art said to the next guess.

And Miss Swynford, whom Art had embarassingly called Miss Macmillan before, was putting forth some excellent guesses. "Yes! Alihotsy leaves indeed, the very ones," he smiled. "It might very well be the reason the colour has changed, yes," he put that theory into his notebook. Was that why it changed colours? Another guess of taste. "I'm not sure about your second guess, but I'm going to look into that. Unless you and Miss Paton want to test that out yourselves, another time?" He was very curious as to whether the addition of activated charcoal changed the taste.

Art had to pause and chuckle at what Miss Kettleburn asked. "Well... do you think you talk a lot? I suppose we will see shortly." The young lioness never failed to bring a chuckle to Art. Or mortification, but mostly a chuckle. It was a good question.

"As some of you have said, activated charcoal is used for detoxifying and bezoar is an antidote for poisons. This is quite a fun little potion, but the uhh.. the-the combination of some ingredients sometimes make overdosing a problem. Especially if the person ingesting it is... unknowingly allergic." As was the unfortunate incident with Wilhelmina Tuft, many years ago, who died after ingesting alihotsy flavoured fudge.

"Now a lot of you have correctly guessed why we have added the ingredients, that it makes it different. For a lot of potions, they are dose based. Too little and the effects aren't enough, too much and you may overdose and have serious consequences. I played around with this potion for my kids, actually, so they could have fun with it when they were young. The addition of these ingredients means the potion can be ingested in whatever dose, and there is no chance of overdose. It also means the potion only lasts for 20 minutes, rather than an unknown length of time." He had to make it safe for his kids, after all, and now he felt confident about his students ingesting it. "You'll be brewing about... uhh... 10 doses of it today. You can keep the potion if you like, and have fun with it." His kids were, of course, younger when they had fun with the Babbling Beverage, but perhaps it would make a good gift or something for those too old to have fun with it.

Art lowered the sheet covering the blackboard at the back, and the modified potion was revealed.

SPOILER!!: Babbling Beverage

Babbling Beverage

Ingredients
  • 500ml Water
  • 5g Fresh Alihotsy leaves
  • 2 dried Billywig Stings
  • Pinch of powdered Erumpent tongue
  • 5ml Armadillo bile
  • 2 drops Leech Juice
  • 1 tablespoon Activated Charcoal
  • Pinch of ground Bezoar

Method
  • Clean equipment
  • Add water to cauldron, and bring to a simmer
  • Stew alihotsy leaves in simmering water for 20 minutes [prepare other ingredients whilst waiting]
  • Remove all traces of leaves, and return water to a boil
  • Add dried billywig stings and erumpent tongue, boil for 10 minutes, continuously stiring counter-clockwise
  • Allow to cool to room temperature (22 °C/72 °F)
  • Add armadillo bile, stir five (5) times counter-clockwise
  • Add leech juice, stir twenty (20) times counter-clockwise, and the potion should be light brown in colour
  • Bring back to a boil
  • Circle wand counter-clockwise over cauldron whilst saying the incantation ‘garrula lingua’ and bring down to a simmer
  • Add 1 levelled tablespoon of activated charcoal
  • Stir counter-clockwise three (3) times slowly
  • Add a pinch of ground bezoar
  • Stir once counter clockwise and remove from heat
  • As it cools, it will turn from a light brown colour to a fluorescent yellow
  • When the colour stops lightening, you may bottle your potion. It will be approximately ten serves, if stored in 20mL vials.
  • Label one vial for the Professor to analyse, and ingest another vial. Save the others for your own use, or dispose of.

Characteristics: Fluorescent, solid yellow
Level: Beginner - Intermediate
Information: Dose is 20ml. Smaller dose will limit effects, larger dose will have no extra effect due to the addition of activated charcoal and ground bezoar, which adds a protection to the drinker.

He re-cleaned his own equipment, and measured out 500mL of water, pouting it into the cauldron. With his bunsen burner, the old muggle way, positioned under his cauldron, he sparked his flint and got the fire going. "Just to a light simmer, now," he said. Once a few little bubbles appeared, he measured 5 grams of fresh alihotsy leaves and put them into the water.

OOC: Go ahead and start making your potion! You can do this in as many or few posts as you like, as long as they have some effort and detail put in [refer to my marking guide in my Guideline section].
You need to complete the potion for full marks, but go ahead and create a disaster if your character is poor at Potions
If you need us, just put 'Professor' or something into the Title so we can easily see it, but we will be reading through all the posts anyway.
You have until September 20th, approximately 3:30pm ACST // 6am GMT to complete the Potion
Once you COMPLETE the potion, feel free to have a sample and RP the effects
