The next student to arrive was a young Slytherin, who hadn't greeted Art. Perhaps he hadn't seen him. "Good morning Mr Asakura," Art said, never one to not make a greeting. "Good morning Miss Botros," Art greeted the next Slytherin into the class.
Art looked up as Miss Umbridge came in, and was about to return her greeting when she started reacting to something. He was suddenly alert, worried that there was a smell of smoke or gas or something, but no... it was just the menthol. He relaxed slightly. There was no emergency. "Er... s-sorry it's my menthol cream. You'll... get used to it," he said, hopeful. But perhaps he'd leave the door open for the duration of the lesson. But then she handed him a COOKIE! He took it from her with a grin and put it securely into his desk draw, away from Madame Curie, who was following it with her eyes. "Thank you! This looks delicious!" "Good morning Mr Kovalainen," Art said to the first Hufflepuff entering the class.
He grinned at the next to enter, the young Ravenclaw who had changed her name! He was still in the process of setting her new surname to memory, and had made a few blunders. "Good morning there Miss Snow," he said happily to one of his brightest little potioneers. "Ohayō gozaimasu Mr Reed," Art said, remembering the Japanese greeting for good morning. At least he thought it was for good morning.
A graduating Hufflepuff entered next, greeting him. "Good morning Miss Skeeter," he said. "Good morning Mr Myers," Art greeted the second year Ravenclaw with a gleeful smile. The young lad seemed quite cheerful, which was wonderful to see.
Art noticed the confident walk of Miss Phillips as she came through the door. He smiled and said "Good morning there, Miss Phillips."
Another of his Lions walked in next, the young one who Art had been informed of costing 50 points. But he knew, without a doubt, she would win those points back and all would be okay. "Good morning Miss Tate," he said warmly to her.
And one of his VERY best students walked in next. Art would be very sorry to see her go, but of course this was the way of life. He gave a broad smile to the young Slytherin and said "Good morning Miss Andrews, and... and Madame Curie says hello too." She was wiffling her nose in the general direction of Miss Andrews, a gesture Art knew was a greeting. "Hello Miss Paton," Art said with a smile to the second year Hufflepuff. He knew she tried hard to brew a Potion, and he loved to see her hard work. "Good morning Mr Winslow," Art greeted the fifth year Ravenclaw, transfer. He was happy to see some curiosity, but shook his head at the guess. "Not Felix Felicis today, I'm afraid." Perhaps another day they would look at that one. "Hello Mr Salander," Art greeted. "Madame Curie says hello too." Art hadn't even noticed the young Lion's use of the lab coat to block his nose.
Art loved watching the progression of students from first years through to seventh years. He smiled warmly at the first year Ravenclaw to enter the class. "Good morning there Mr Jarvis. Madame Curie says hello too." And she was, indeed, inclining her nose towards the young man, sniffing.
And another of his brightest students entered. Art smiled warmly, "Good morning Miss Lynch, err y-yes I'm afraid so. I think it's all the climbing up and down from the dungeons to the seventh floor." He listened to her suggestion to see the healer and nodded. "I've m-made an appointment to see her, I have confidence she will help me. Otherwise I'll have to come up with a... a way to get from my office to the Gryffindor tower," he said with a chuckle. Broom stick? He greatly appreciated her asking about his knees. "Good morning Miss Traulton," Art greeted another graduating seventh year Slytherin. "Hello Miss Franks-Mundie," Art greeted another Slytherin, though thankfully a sixth year. Too many graduating students. "I'm alright, just a bit sore in the knees. How are you?"
And one of his very keen Potioneers entered next. "Good morning Miss Denaker. Madame Curie says hello," he said with a smile. Madame Curie was twitching her little nose in Miss Denaker's direction. A sure sign of greeting. "Good morning Miss Duchannes," Art greeted another sixth year Slytherin, and Madame Curie, always enjoying the greetings, gave a little raise of her paw, signalling a wave of hello. "Good morning Miss Botros," Art greeted the young Slytherin. He smiled at her observation and gave her a little wink. "Ahh a nice observation there. Once I reveal what it is, let me know if you think it might be a happy brew." Cryptic, he hoped.
Art couldn't help but beam at Miss Griffel as she entered the classroom. "Good morning Miss Griffel," Art said. Madame Curie gave quite the greeting. She lifted off her front two feet to a standing potition, her little front paws bent, and gave a little twitch, almost like a wave. Her little nose seemed to be vibrating as it sniffed the young Slytherin. Art chuckled. "I think she likes you," he observed. "You do? What's your rats name?" He was most intrigued! "Good morning Mr Park," Art greeted another Slytherin. Madame Curie, still in her little standing position, gave a sniff of her nose. Art smiled, "She says hello too."
The next to enter was Mr Prince, who Art knew wouldn't greet him. He had accepted the young man just as he was. "Good morning Mr Prince," he greeted, just to let him know that Art had noticed him, and was, actually, happy to see the young lad. Art was most intrigued by his methods of potion making, and enjoyed watching him tweak the potions, or add his notes. Curiosity was key for Potion making. "Good morning Mr Bellaire," Art greeted the young man with the constant quil companion, and who used his wand as minimal as possible. "Did you bring your wand today?" he asked. Art had been informed of the meetings in the past, from both the Headmaster, and Professor Flamsteed. Art only wanted to teach the young man things, either with or without a wand, and tried to come up with ways so the young man could get his tasks complete without needing his wand. Unfortunately... a wand was required this lesson. Perhaps someone could help him though. "Good morning Miss Potts," Art said to the Hufflepuff student. He DID notice her reaction to the smell. He gave an apologetic smile. "I'll keep the door open for ventilation," he said. He shouldn't have put so much on, but it was certainly taking the aches away.
Art saw Miss Reynolds enter and head to a desk. He was about to say hello, thinking she'd just forgotten to greet him, but there it was - a wave. Art smiled and returned the wave. "Good morning Miss Reynolds." "Good morning Mr Chev," Art greeted the guitar playing Hufflepuff. He smiled at the young man, and went back to patting Madame Curie. "Mr McWitty," Art greeted one of his Lions. "Good morning! Madame Curie says hello." She was giving her little sniff of greeting as he passed the desk.
Another one entering without a greeting. Perhaps they were too enthusiastic to get started! But, nope, Miss Newman's face didn't look enthusiastic. Perhaps it was the menthol... "Good morning Miss Newman," Art said.
A very energetic Mr Solo was next to enter, getting a smile from Art. "Good morning Mr Solo, Madame CURIE says hello," he said, a slight chuckle, always saying Curry instead of Curie. Madame Curie blinked at the young lion, but Art wouldn't let her get titchy with the Lions for a making a little slip. He chuckled again at the modelling of the pink robes. "Good morning Miss McNally," Art said cheerfully. Madame Curie, in his hand, was twitching her little nose in her direction. "Madame Curie says hello, too." He smiled.
Another of his Lions entered, and Art smiled at her. A bit apologetically, realising the smell was, in fact, noticeable. "Good morning Miss Newman, Madame Curie says hello too." She twitched her nose at the young Lion in greeting. "Good morning Miss Macmillan," Art greeted another Lion. Madame Curie did her standing up thing again, her nose wildly twitching in smell, and she JUMPED from his hands, and onto the desk. At that moment, a block of cheese was placed on the table. Art laughed, a loud laugh, and Madame Curie got to work on nibbling at the cheese. "Thank you Miss Macmillan, I think you've made her a very happy rat," he said wiping the tears of laughter from his eyes.
And next to enter was, Art was happy to see, another Lion. "Good morning Mr Bellaire-Moore," he said.
A first year Slytherin was next, and Art smiled as he walked in. "Good morning Mr Sychev," he said to the young lad.
And the Hufflepuff Prefect was next to join them. "Good morning Miss Darcy," Art said. Madame Curie, too occupied in the cheese, didn't acknowledge the young lady. Art shook his head. "She'll ignore anyone for a bit of cheese," he said apologetically. She was being quite rude, ignoring the greetings because of cheese!
Another Slytherin to enter, just as the clock ticked time, and Art smiled, saying "Good morning Thomas-Borzekowski," as he came in and got his lab coat. Leaving Madame Curie on the table to eat the cheese, Art stood up and clapped his hands. "Right, let's get started shall we?" He didn't close the door, because he wanted to allow at least some ventilation from the classroom. The menthol seemed to be quite noticeable to some.
He paused and pulled the lids off all the containers, revealing Alihosty leaves, Billywig Stings, powdered Erumpant tongues, Armadillo bile, Leech Juice, and his own additions to the potion were Activated Charcoal and ground Bezoar. Luckily after brewing a potion a few terms back, he had a lot of leftover ground bezoar, which would save a lot of elbow grease. "You can come and have a look at the ingredients," he said, placing little samples in clear bowls so that, even if they didn't want to come up, they might still see the ingredients. Art knew what they all were, of course, but they weren't labelled.
He held up the fluorescent yellow vial for everyone to see. "Now some of you might have brewed this before, but in your textbook it's.... err a-a light brown colour. I've added some activated charcoal and some ground bezoar. Two questions. Anyone guess what the potion is? And... why I would have tweaked the recipe to include activated charcoal and ground bezoar?" Yooooooooo.
Charlotte did not know the answer, but she DID hear other people say babbling something or other, so that gave her a question of her own to ask and she stuck her hand up, waving it around until she was called on and the question BURST out of her. "Professor, what happens if you take babbling beverage and you ALREADY talk a lot?"
.... inquiring minds.
