The owl had arrived a week ago. The letter, signed by a classmate that was not a friend, but wasn't wholly untrustworthy either, had been a slap in Nicky's face. She'd taken a few days to consider its contents. To compare the evidence presented with what she could glean from other letters she'd received.

And so she'd decided to respond.

The bright red envelope of a howler in hand, Nicky had climbed up to the owlery in search of a bird that would carry her reply on the first leg of it's journey back to Brazil, where it would scream and demand answers from the girl who was supposed to be Nicky's best friend... practically her sister.

She did not notice the Slytherin as she looked for a suitable, borrowable school owl. Lips set in a frown and eyes narrowed, Nicky scanned her options.

She needed a fast bird.
