42. Silencio

"Why is he still screaming?"
"He's teething, James, his poor gums are so sore."
Lily yawned a gigantic yawn, which James copied.
"We haven't had any sleep in three bloody days Lily. Do something! I'm going crazy listening to his constant cries."
"You don't think I'm not trying to help him? Merlin's backside, James, I'm TRYING! What are YOU doing? Sitting there yelling at me, like it's my fault, like there's something I can do to stop his crying." She rocked the squirming baby in her arms.
James raised his wand, pointing it to Harry. "Silenci-" James started.
Lily acted quickly to kick him hard in the shin. "NO JAMES! What do you think you're doing?" she screamed at him. "Pulling your wand out at your five-month-old son. How DARE you!"
James flung the wand across the room. It hit the wall and fell to the floor, sparks shooting out the end.
"You take him, see if you can do any better."
Lily thrust Harry to James and stormed out of the little nursery, slamming the door behind her. She slid down the wall, clenching her hair in fists.
