SPOILER!!: Fun stuff
His fidgetiness didn’t help Krel relax any. In fact it made her anxiety spike. That was until he put his arms around her and pulled her close. It took her a moment to realize he wasn’t mad at her, but once she did, she relaxed and leaned into him. “Oh, good…” she said softly. He wasn’t mad at her. She looked up at him while he spoke. His half smile took a bit away from his words as he explained to her that he understood that her work sometimes took too much of her time, but she tried to focus on what he was saying verses how he was saying it. Males, after all, communicated in a different way than females.
She shifted to have a better view of his face as he continued to talk. Her communications training had ingrained in her the importance of giving someone who was talking her full attention. Her lips pressed together a bit as he began talking about how much time they had been spending together lately. Was spending time together a bad thing? She still had a bit of difficulty reading Edward, even after all the years she’d known him. Then she realized he was apologizing for his moodiness. “Everyone gets moody sometimes,” she said simply with a light shrug of her shoulders. She was a firm believer that everyone should be able to express their emotions as they needed to, just so long as they weren’t using a person as an emotion punching bag, and she didn’t’ feel like Edward had been doing that. “Life appears to have not been very nice to either of us lately.” Last night with her father popped into her head and she suddenly felt very very tired.
She took the proffered water and twisted the cap off and thought about his last words. What could he possibly have to say that was frightening? Did he think she would jinx him or something? Was he moving to Antarctica? Did his ex-wife suddenly come back? A million thoughts raced through her head, but she couldn’t think of one that she was willing to voice aloud. So…she took a drink of the water she was holding and waited.
Edward felt Krel relax a little as he pulled her to him. He was grateful that he could help her feel that way and he certainly didn't want to add to her anxiety, though he was anxious himself. Why did he think this was the best way and manner in which to have this discussion. He gave her a quick peck on the forehead as she leaned on him. This was so much more challenging in person than it was in his head. He'd felt much more confident practicing the conversation than actually having it.
He noticed that she looked at him directly, which might make him feel uncomfortable if he didn't know her so well. It was endearing knowing she was giving him her attention. That was a valuable commodity, since she was so busy sometimes with all she had going on in her life. He nodded as she gently tried to comfort him for his recent lack of social graces. "Be that as it may, I shouldn't be directing my work related stress in unhealthy ways toward you." He hadn't tried in a long time to really allow himself to communicate his feelings and he was struggling a bit to do it now. He really wanted to tell her. "No, it doesn't seem to have been nice, has it." He took a sip of his water and smiled warmly at her. "Even with that, you are a shining ray of light in the challenging days we've faced. You make me happy, even if I haven't done a good job of helping you feel that way."
He thought about the thoughtful notes she'd occasionally send and how she knew to reach out to him and gently reassure him with a touch when he needed it. It was one of the many stellar qualities of this amazing woman. He set his drink down and reached into the pocket of his waistcoat for the slip of parchment he'd put there, to help him stay on track. He smiled up at her before slipping his gaze to his own handwriting and began to recite what he'd written.
Krel, We have been a good team since the day we met. You came into my life at a difficult time and we reconnected and you offered friendship. You never made me feel as if I was less than a wonderful person." He looked up quickly at her before reading some more.
" I have treasured the time we've spent and I know that each moment is precious because one never knows when it will all end."
He reached back and grabbed the water and took another sip and returning it to the bench. He continued.
"We haven't discussed this and I know it might seem odd, but I feel like there needs to be a formality to our relationship. You are much more than a friend to me. While I value your friendship, I'd like more. I don't know where the portkey will take us, but I'd like to travel wherever it leads with you."
He folded the parchment with shaking hands and returned it to his pocket, before looking up at her. He was breathing hard, from the emotional exertion and waited for her reaction. And in the brief pause, his mind conjured all manners of things that could go wrong at this moment.
