Even an attempt would have earned him full marks.
"That's enough, Mr Song,'' Kay said suddenly in her firm voice. "I have been lenient in ignoring your rudeness thus far but those last comments have been disrespectful. Ten points from Slytherin.''
Song Jaemin had been fully prepared to just let it go. He was going to do the cooking thing, and ignore the Muggle Studies professor. But when she spoke to him again, and took points from him for such an absurd reason, the small boy immediately went completely, absolutely still and rigid where he stood, expression floating somewhere between confusion and just... anger.
And the anger happened to win. Because he. did. not. like. her. at all.
"Why is it rude to tell you that you've said my name wrong? And rude to say you've done it before? How is that me being disrespectful and not you?" the twelve year old snapped, hands balling into fists at his sides as he stared at the woman. "People have always said my name wrong, and it bothers me. Am I supposed to not let it bother me that people can't say my name? Is it not supposed to bother me that a professor gets my name wrong? Am I supposed to let it go just because you're a professor?"
His name wasn't even difficult to say. But nobody ever wanted to try, which was why he let people call him Jay even though he didn't really like that name very much at all. Because it wasn't his name.
"Why do you get to take points from me for being upset that you say my name wrong?"
Clearly this cooking thing wasn't going to happen, because the only thing the twelve year old Slytherin had boiling at this point was some very strong anger over this... absolute injustice. He was being punished for not being happy about her calling him the wrong name repeatedly? He stared at the Muggle Studies professor defiantly, his anger and upset very clearly written across his face. |
