As for Haddie herself, she was stuffed, and hadn't even finished what she piled on her plate.

She had finished securing the napkin of tri-tip so that she was confident it wouldn't unravel and spill out in her bag when Mossy's question caught her by surprise. Hadley flashed her dorm mate a confident grin. "I..." The confidence wavered instantly, leaving Hads with a puzzled expression and her mouth hanging open. She closed it.

Why did she care? It's not like Mossy wanted to be Haddie's friend, or even liked the girl. That had been obvious from day one, when Mossy hadn't even given her a chance. And yet, for some inexplicable reason that Haddie herself didn't even know, she did care. More than she should have. She shrugged and closed her bag. "Nothing to gain. You just..." She paused, trying to find the words when she didn't even know what they were yet. "You deserve to be happy."

Katherine wiped her mouth in a very lady-like fashion (by gently wiping the corners of her mouth with the tip of the napkin) and stared with the clear blue eyes at the girl. Haddie. She noted down the confidence, and then the puzzlement. Was that even genuine? Did Haddie really not know, or was she surprised because Katherine had asked? The more clever one of these two had no doubt that it was the latter. Haddie was caught off-guard, because she didn't want to admit Katherine was her laugh-thing.

I'm calm, I'm calm, I am better than her, I need to focus...

She snorted when Haddie finally answered properly and opened her mouth to retort; but when the girl went on, it was her time to be caught off-guard.

'You deserve to be happy...'

Only the most cautious eyes, and maybe not even them, could have caught the millisecond expression of longing. However, it was soon replaced by anger - an anger not directed at Haddie at all in the deepest part of her heart, but she had conditioned herself so hard to hate the girl that she couldn't even discern.

"You want me happy?" she breathed as she leaned onto her to make a point, "you stay. Away. From me. Got it? Being successful and recognised by the professors will make me happy, but you open your big mouth every single time. I'm the happiest when you're far, far away." So now Haddie knew what made her happy and if she really had been honest about it, she would leave her alone - which Katherine doubted, so ONE single prank on her, and Katherine was reporting it to the Headmaster.

Since she was full and she wanted to beat the crowds to get into her bed early to wake up fresh tomorrow, she grabbed her bag and left without giving Haddie a chance to reply.
