She gestured to a chair opposite her and cleared away what she was working on for the moment. He was being given her full attention. To be honest, Mordred just needed a little push to be convinced that Harmony is secretly a Legilimens. That tone in her voice made the dragonologists’ mind shields go up subconsciously. There was no way he’d open up his personal issues with his boss. Those things need to be left at home where it belongs. Letting out an inaudible sigh, Mordred took the offered seat, and allowed himself to calm down first. He didn’t want to stutter out his words on his first visit.
Putting his folder on the table in front of him, Mordred opened it, and got the top most parchment to review it briefly. “First things first, about my coffee research.” He said trying his best to sound casual, “I have partially extracted the good nutrients and energy boosting oils from the dragon dung, but apparently, I will be needing A&C’s laboratory for the rest of the extraction.” Besides, he’d still need to wait for the sample dung to dry out completely. He discovered that the dried dung is capable of extracting more oils than the fresh one. Not that...Harmony needed to know the small, dirty detail. "I haven't received any reply from our friends in A&C regarding the matter, but I will update you again once I get the go signal."
Flipping to the next page, Mordred read his notes and passed a draft report towards Harmony. “About the wizard who sent us a howler regarding the smuggled dragon egg, the man’s definitely guilty. If I’m not mistaken he is now under the custody of the local MLEP,” Mordred moved on with his report, thinking that he shouldn’t spend most of his time under the investigation. He would leave the job to the MLErs, and he’d give his full attention to the smuggled eggs. “Now, about the eggs, these aren’t the typical ones,” he said handing Harmony moving pictures of the retrieved spheres. Each egg was different from one another. “This one is a Hydrus or Idrus. The provenance of this egg is from Egypt, and it is a many headed dragon.” He said pointing to the almost perfect sphere in turquoise blue. “This one is a Lindworm egg,” he said pointing to the capsule-shaped egg in earthbrown, specked with lime green, “They are armless dragons...and don’t fly despite their wings. They can be found in Gemany mostly, and feed on cattles.” Poor things. “And lastly, a Sui-Riu dragon egg. It is a water borne dragon native to Japan. Note however the indentation on the side,” he said pointing to an ivory white egg dusted with gold streaks, “I’m afraid the smugglers tried to break the egg open, and they somehow know what is inside. The Sui-Riu feeds on a giant pearl while it is still inside the egg. The pearl occupies three-quarters of the sphere, making it the biggest gem both in the wizarding and muggle world.” Mordred let out a sigh, and brushed off a strand of hair from his forehead. He did a lot of talking just now, and he felt like passing out already. “I have subjected the Sui-Riu egg in a special healing potion to wash out the spell inflicted on its shell. It doesn’t matter now if the dragon will be born with a defect. All I’m hoping for is its survival despite its disturbance in the ageing process.”
The dragonologist sat back and let Harmony absorb everything that he said. So far, he’d done everything he could to save the poor baby dragons. There was one thing left to do now, though. “I don’t know if Tancred has read my report, but I suppose it won’t be a big deal to directly ask for your permission for me to return the unborn dragons to their respective reserves when they are stable enough? They are more than equipped than us to take care of the eggs.” The Sui-Riu is a special case, but he was sure that the Japanese will be more than happy to look after it. “I will also be needing clearance papers from the DMIC, which I was hoping you could help me out.” Foreign Policy, and all that jazz.
