Tiara chuckled at the Slytherin's admiration. "Thank you, my dear. Sadly, yours cannot be quite this advanced." School brooms would never be that expensive without an outside donor. And then it was no surprise when the broom zoomed into the girl's hand quickly. She had Quidditch in her blood. Tiara flashed her an approving smile.
"Well done, everyone! I think you are ready to hover now." As in, that was ALL for the moment. "Please take two large steps backwards to give yourselves some room," she said, following her own directions. Hopefully that would prevent collisions.
Right then. "Mount your brooms carefully, like so," she said, swinging her leg over the twig end. "Grip firmly, but not like a vice grip. The broom will not appreciate being squeezed to death." Nor would anything else. "If your grip gets too tight, your shoulders and arms tense up and it is harder to maintain balance. Just relax." That would be even harder than normal on a windy day like today.
"So we will start with taking off and landing. When I give the signal, you will kick off hard from the ground. Lift the handle up slightly to rise off the ground. Hover no more than a few feet off the ground and then tilt the handle back down to land." She paused for a few moments to let them digest these instructions.
"Now I want you to practice a few takeoffs and landings. Go ahead, give it a go!"
Ariadne gave a disapproving look when Tanner brought up the fact that their brooms wouldn't be quite as nice as hers. What she wanted to say was that she WOULD have had a nice broom had first years been allowed one. Her dad had even said he'd buy her one! Next year, though. NEXT YEAR. She returned the professor's smile then turned her attention to the broom grasped in her hand.
OMG, A HOVER!
They were getting close! They'd be flying anytime now! Ariadne bounced from side to side for a few minutes before settling into place. She took two large steps backward then looked around to make sure she had enough room. She mounted her broom then got a decent grip on the handle. It was SUPER hard to relax when she was so excited, but Ariadne managed it anyway.
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Ariadne gave an INNER scream of excitement then kicked off from the ground...
