"Fourth years are usually when this spell is introduced, but you shouldn't let that hurt your determination. A child with determination can learn anything he wants as long as he puts his mind to it and practices. I was like you, I would always try to learn charms before everyone else. It's what started my passion for learning and for teaching." Right here in this very office, occupied by an entirely different professor. One that most likely would be telling the child to enjoy being 11 and not worrying about charms that were harder to succeed at, but Julien liked to feed the spark and push students to higher levels. "Very good, your wrist is correct. You just have to now get your confidence that you can do this. You won't fail." Once he had that in mind he would be easily keeping the air around his mouth and nose clear. The rest of him was another story, because the bubble charm couldn't do everything. Fourth year... it felt almost a little bit like a sucker punch, that. He was a first year. He'd seen fourth years doing stuff, and he knew for sure that he wasn't anywhere near their level yet. It would take some time... hopefully not three years of it, though. He didn't want to have to wait three years to learn this charm! He wanted to have it down by the end of the term, at the latest.
And if the professor thought he could do it, then he was sure he could do it. After all, the professor was smart and everything. He would know, more than Jaemin would.
"I like learning magic," he murmured, looking at the wand in his hand. His wand. It had picked him specially. "I waited a long time to get to come to Hogwarts, so I could learn all sorts of magic stuff."
He'd done his time in Muggle school, and they'd all done their time worrying if he'd actually get a letter on his birthday. He hadn't had any of those big 'incidents' that others seemed to have, and for a while his parents had tried to talk to him about not being disappointed if the letter didn't come. But it had, and he was determined to be soooooo much better at Wizard stuff than he was at Muggle stuff. And he was pretty darn good at a lot of Muggle stuff.
He looked up from his wand, at the professor, and smiled. "I'll practice it lots until I get it to work. And when I make it work, I'm gonna come show you I can do it! Okay?" |
