“Yes, yes, as I juuuuuust said to David--we’re going to get to that in JUST a minute--” Such EAGER students, Merlin. DIdn’t they understand this was a process with MULTIPLE steps?

And with that, he went to the front of the room once more. They were so CLOSE to being done. Only two more steps. “We’re about to be done, my little students!” Paul smiled. “So--” he waved his wand and the bucket on his desk began to float, row by row, along the front of each row, rolls of grafting tape leaping out of the bucket and in front of each student. “As some of you noticed--the tongues should fit together--but that is NOT enough so--there is a spell we’re going to learn...and take note, in muggle grafting, we would tape together the trees...and leave them to grow on their own for a few months. With the use of magic...we can morph the trees together instantly! It’s great!” He smiled.

“So...fit your trees together if you have not done so already along the cuts and make sure the tongue fit together! After doing that, wrap around the cut part with your tape, firmly, too.” He paused to make sure everyone had followed.

“After you wrap your tree...the spell we’re going to learn today is...Jungo Arborem!” He wrote it, himself this time, across the blackboard. “Ju as in June...go….Arborem! Jungo Arborem! The wand movement is simple...just a flick of your wrist!” he smiled. It was a simple spell. “And if you successfully do the spell..you will have a grafted baby tree! Now...the particles and molecules and everything might not take correctly...and this is why we do have to continue to watch them closely as they grow. Now...let’s finish this up, everyone!” he smiled and began to wrap tape around his own tree...and was about to do the spell when...he noticed Azura..and heard her call for him.

Merlin O__O

Ah, so they DID have to use grafting tape. Good to know! David had great herbological instincts. He smiled at the professor's suggestion to be patient and waited for the tape to come to him... come on, boy... there... THERE it was.

Davie wrapped his tree up nice and tight and then got his wand ready. He did a few practice swish and flicks, and made sure to say the spell out loud for practice before casting anything. He had to learn from his mistake on the CoMC professor's door, see. When he was ready, the second year flicked his wand at his tree.

"Jungo Arborem!"

He nodded. “I do have a list--somewhere--but typically...there are always exceptions, but MOST rootstocks will pair with any scion and vice versa…” he nodded. “But there are...lists of the stastically compatible pairings...I have some in my office.” He was always welcome to come take a look!

“Well..if the tree survives--which honestly, if you take extra care of it, it SHOULD--it means the grafting has successfully been done!”

SPOILER!!: Rachel and Azura

“Noooo, m’dear, don’t be sorry! It was merely an accident!” he told Azura softly. “Let me go get my kit... I am going to put a little bandage on your cut, Azura, to get it to stop bleeding. You can have the healer check it out later…” he smiled. “No need for alarm, my dear, I am sure! Are you able to finish?” he asked as he summoned the kit from under his desk. Healing spells were not his forte, and he would not mess up this child’s arm! So he pulled out some white bandages and quickly wrapped it around her cut. “Are you okay? Does it hurt?” he asked softly.

He smiled at Rachel. “Thanks for the offer, you sweet child, but I think we have this handled!” What a nice gesture!

SPOILER!!: Dima and Amur

AH, and more questions. RIGHT RIGHT! He grinned.

Everyone--once you have DONE your spell--take the tape off to make sure the spell worked correctly. As I explained to Jace, the spell is to fuse the trees together into one!” he nodded. “Once you unwrap your tree, just label it and leave it on your spot. Actually--leave all of the tree parts in your spots, too. I will take care of those--maybe I’ll try to graft them together and see if they take,” he shrugged.

“One LAST question--which I KNOW has crossed the minds of some of you--do you think this form of Herbology, this grafting, is okay? Why or why not?” hehehe. He smirked.

Davie labeled his tree next, and nodded along with Dima's answer. Older kid had a point, he did. Trees don't *really* feel things.... He carefully took his tape off his grafted tree, amazed to see how it looked like it had already fused together. Huh. Neat. Now to make the label...

"I agree with the others," he answered the professor's question amicably as he finished up his work. "Why would grafting be wrong? UNLESS you're grafting together like a Devil's Snare and a flitterbloom, to create something which looks harmless but isn't...."

Yes, he'd just gotten a marvelous idea based on two of his mum's favorite plants. Heh.
