The assignment is to find out what the person in one of the portraits has contributed to history, and you will do that by asking questions to find out." Clearly the boy was not paying to instructions the first time he spoke them which did little more than annoy the professor for having to repeat them. "You can either complete the assignment now in class, or you can do it after class with me in detention."

"And as your name is Mr. Meriwether on my roster, that is what you will be called until I receive notice otherwise from a parent." He didn't buy into nicknames that made no sense to him, and he certainly did not need to be corrected when he was not wrong.
