"Yeah." But he frowned. It had not exactly been the best meeting. "Her parents didn't withdraw her from school, but she didn't tell me anything else. I don't know if she couldn't, or if she doesn't know either." But she was the Headmistress, which meant she knew everything, right? Probably.

When Moxley started talking, Oliver quickly took a seat on a tire next to Ava. He didn't want to have to spend the entire lesson standing. Not that he thought they were going to be sitting for long. They never did in lessons at Hogwarts.

Olly closed his eyes to more properly visualize. He pictured everything Moxley said, eventually realizing that in this case visualizing actually worked better with his eyes opening, considering he was surrounded by the very things he was visualizing. He imagined living in the environment that had been replicated in the classroom. Yeah, that would not exactly be pleasant.

"I would feel unsafe," he said after raising his hand. "Like if the government or the police or whoever is supposed to be in charge doesn't care enough to make sure it doesn't get so dirty, they wouldn't care enough about making sure the people who live here are safe."

Still, he was a student, and a good one at that, so he HAD to raise his hand to answer the question.

"Depressed," the Ravenclaw sighed out. Yes, this abandoned-looking alley way would make him feel depressed. "Or like a bum," he added half-heartedly. Just in case she was going to have them act out the bum life today, Davie was ready. He could scowl like a bum and everything. He could probably even growl at kids if they tried to take his chocolate frog collection, or better yet, if they tried to sit on his and Blaise's tire. IT WAS HIS TIRE. HE LIVED HERE NOW. HIS.

See, he was ready.

Merlin!

The first year put her hand in the air and spoke. "I would feel like I would be in danger! You never know what could be lurking around here, also.. For the people who aren't exactly.. Coordinated.. like herself! Hello four broken noses! "a place like this would pose a constant hazard to that person and everyone around them." You've been warned everyone!

She nodded and looked around and shook her head.. It would be awful to live in a place like this!

She couldn't help but grin as she let her gaze run across the abandoned lot, covered in buckets and tyres. One of those would suffice as a seat, of course, but she really wanted to go perch on one of the fences, or even better, on the top of that wall.

So tempting. It'd take barely jiffy to get up there.

Something told her it was likely just an illusion on the actual walls of the classroom, so instead she lithely hopped between some buckets and tyres on her way to the front of the classroom, finally plopping down on a large-ish tractor tyre.

"Awesome classroom, Professor," she said by way of greeting with a grin. Best yet, she reckoned.

And, oh, the lesson was starting!

How would it make her feel? Sam tilted her head at the professor. She wasn't sure what she was meant to answer here. She twisted around on her tyre and glanced round the room once more, her previous excitement for the lesson dissipating into awkwardness.

"S'a bit cold," she answered finally. "Too open tah be ideal fah livin'. Nah shelter from wet ei'ver. Not bad for playin' 'n climbin' wiff ya mates though."

Okay so what was up with the whole ‘imagine if’ scenarios in classes lately. First Defence class where they had to ‘imagine if someone bigger attacked you’ and now muggle studies with a ‘imagine if you lived in a post-apocalyptic city’. He tried to imagine and unsafe was definitely one of the first things that popped up in his mind. “Like a homeless person struggling with hope” he said after raising his hand in the air.

"D..." Haddie's mouth slammed shut. The Dodo Bird stole her answer before she could give it. Typical of him. Why was he even in this class anyway? He hated Muggles and Muggleborns because they didn't know their magical history.

Haddie rolled her eyes. "Anxious. And Claustrophobic." Nailed it.

Dante would pay money to read that book and yes he did know what that book was. He even read it surprisingly enough.

Oh! It seemed Azura was right behind her on the way in as was Olivia. Rachel smiled at them both when they sat next to her. She was always pleased to have company. “Hello, girls.’’ She could not miss the loud voice of one Haddie Denaker. The dark haired girl smiled at her other friend but then said, “I think you forgot to address her a ‘Professor’.’’ Rachel was always having to look out for her best friend. She then turned back to the others joining the class. She smiled back at Esme. “Hello there, Melbourne.’’ Rachel now looked around at the newcomer. She was familiar but did not know the girl. “I’m Rachel.’’ The first year saw Jace take a seat close by to her and notice the wave. “Hello, Samurai,’’ she mouthed to him as she waved back. Noticing Ilia, she threw the Snake a smirk. The puffed up girl probably thought her bum was too high and mighty to be placed on a tire or bucket.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

There came the whistle which surely meant the start of the class. Rachel listened raptly and did as Professor Moxley suggested. She couldn't help but turn up her face in mild disgust. She never wanted to live in someplace like this. The Eagle lifted a hand. "Disgust since it is certainly not healthy for anyone and it's an eye sore.'' Aside from health purposes, there were others reasons for not wanting to live in a dump.

As the lesson started, she looked around the 'classroom' with a frown on her face. Yeah, she could never imagine living in a place like this. Walking her dog in a scary neighbourhood. Walking past THIS on her way to school... It would be absolutely horrible! She would TRY to picture it, however.

Raising her hand, she said, "uncomfortable more than anything. This place is dirty, abandoned, and reminds me of something post-apocalyptic. Rather unsettling - like something bad is going to happen." Maybe the zombies?

She followed that up with a eye-gauging motion with her first two fingers. Okay. Never mind Defense class. She had some thoughts about the Muggle Studies question, too!

"The mess made me feel like danger was around," she answered, raising her hand even though she had JUST been talking to the woman. "I felt scared, because you were just sitting there looking helpless, and I thought maybe something dangerous was still lurking around here." She assumed that wasn't the case, though, seeing as Moxley was just carrying on with class.

This replica was different with her previous living place.

Hers was save, clean, and lovely. As the only daughter in her family, she was raised as a spoiled girl. The young lioness only has one answer. She raised her hand and spoke her mind.

"Of course it would be dangerous. I'll feel like someone or something always stalk me and might attack me anytime.I'd prefer to hiding in somewhere or looking for protection."

He really should get used to the Gryffindor energy. They are a bunch of fun people, to be honest, and Jace thought he could use some of their enthusiasm. The Ravenclaw nodded in confirmation, “I like my house. It has got everything I need.” Should he tell her about their library? Probably, it was not a wise idea because it seemed that these things are supposed to be kept secret. Besides, she’d be bored if he started talking about it, and books. Gryffindors were more inclined to action anyway.

Jace wanted to ask Melbourne more questions, but an unwelcomed hand suddenly appeared before his face, making the boy lean a bit backwards. Oh yes, he’d seen her before, and Jace purposefully gave her a wide berth everytime she’s in the common room. Haddie’s energy didn’t compliment his, so he thought it was better to steer clear from her fellow Claw. Jace blinked once...twice...wondering if she was telling a joke, or simply was not as observant as he is. “Hi?” was it the right thing to say. “I think it’s not too late to fix the problem. I’m Jace.” He said leaning forward this time, and waved at her. “And...that’s odd. I’ve seen you during our second night in the Tower.” Surely, she hasn’t forgotten the puffskein-pygmy puff- ferret incident, right? He was there...with her friends.

Jace dropped all of his conversations with the girls, as soon as he heard the Headmistress call out to them by whistling. WHOA. She can do that too? Did Torrance see that? Jace was sure his Gryffindor friend would be pleased.

As the Headmistress spoke, Jace looked around him, trying to visualize himself living in a neighbourhood like this. It was kind of hard to pull up the image because back in Japan, everything was spic and span. Everything was in order. It’s the same thing when he moved to England a few years back.

But this...this was a terrible nightmare. He suddenly realized how lucky he is to be in a safe, and clean neighbourhood all his life.

Jace scrunched up his face as he listened to his classmates’ answers. He raised his own hand, and waited for the professor to call him out. “I’d be on alert mode the entire time professor.” It was a very suspicious place to be in, anyway. “The place isn’t being monitored, so most likely...bad things will happen in this place.” He hated to judge, but such place are always associated with evil doings.

He had quietly taken in the scenery around the students, and then had taken to watching the Headmistress Lady until she whistled super loud.

...ohhhh. Oh. He knew what was gonna happen today. Yes he diiiiid. Jay bounced a little, legs crossed and hands absently squeezing his ankles until one shot into the air to signal that he too had an answer for what she was asking.

"Places like this make me feel like a lot of grownups don't take care of anything that can't move around or talk to them or keep their things in it. Like they think it isn't worth their time cause it's not got a house on it or a face or stuff." He wrinkled his nose. "If it don't belong to them, they don't think it's important to do anything with it..."

And if they wanted something done with it, they usually didn't want to do it themselves. They wanted others to do it. Jaemin looked around the room that was no longer a room again. It really would make a nice, big, pretty garden. If there weren't tires and buckets and stuff.

"As many of you have noticed, today's lesson is not taking place in our typical classroom setting. What I want you all to do right now is to imagine you live in an environment like this. Imagine that each day you walk by this on your way to school. You see it when you walk your pet or go out for a run. Maybe you're forced to play in a lot like this because where you live doesn't have an area for recreational activities..." She paused, letting them visualize a life like this in their minds. "Now I'd like each of you to tell me how living in a place like this would make you feel." From the looks on many of the faces as the kids entered the room earlier, she was going to guess unsafe.

"It can Professor, I'm doing splendid." Mhmm. Yup. Very much so. Like things probably couldn't get any better for her right now. Cue a happy grin.

As Professor Moxley spoke about the room Hady took another look around. A closer look. It really did remind her of some of the areas back home. Thankfully it wasn't a part of town she had lived in but she could recall passing by areas such as this many times growing up with her parents, friends and several times by herself. So when the question came around her hand went into the air, "It makes me feel a bit uneasy. You never know what could happen in an area like this but it also makes be feel bad for those that do live here. They deserve a nicer place to be kids or whatever." Right? Everyone needed a place to hang around and have a good time. To be safe.

The boy's words had Blaise looking around at their classmates, trying to figure who it might have been.

In the middle of his search, the Professor began the lesson about where they were. Playing here? Living here? He didn't know. The young Gryffindor took another look around, this time not to survey potential jerks but to take in his surroundings. What WOULD he do? Huh. "I'll feel like I was super tough, Professor. Just looking around already makes me feel tougher, like I can take on anything if I can handle this--plus the tires are neat. They'd make for a cool game."

There, participation, now then, what was this about a Haddie? Wait, he knew a Haddie from other classes they were in together. That girl that came to the Gryffindor table to throw food.

"I'm in." He had nothing personal against the girl, then again, he'd had nothing personal against half the Prefects he pelted. All good. "What'd you have in mind?"

While the students offered up their feelings on the dismal scene around them, Moxley busied herself with a can of black spray paint she’d hidden in the middle of the tire. Approaching the wall, she began to write words she’d been hearing most often, noting that many of them were negative.
Quote:
Negative Feelings:
-Unsafe
-Depressed
-Cold
-Hopeless
-Anxious
-Claustrophobic
-Uncomfortable
-Dirty
-Unhealthy
-Scared
-Abandoned
-Sad

Postive Feelings:
-Excited
-Inspired
-Curious
-Eager to help

Once she’d gotten them down, she paused to look over her work and then faced the class. ”While some of you were able to see the possibilities in a place like this, most of the answers fell on the side of gloom and doom.” Which was understandable, honestly. ”Having a place to call home is something that all humans, magical or mundane, want. Having one that is safe and makes you feel secure is the goal, though not always the case, unfortunately." And Moxley understood it had everything to do with circumstances that couldn't always be controlled.

"Bentley pointed out that if he didn't know about fancy stuff, different environments, he wouldn't think this space was so bad. That was a wonderful point and if we channel this way of thinking, people who call places like this home do grow used to it. They become accustomed to being surrounded by the vacant lots, chain link fences, and cracked pavement. But there are those, like some of you in this very room, that can help to make people who call places like this home see that these environments can be so much more than this.”

"Volunteering is a huge part of building relationships and taking an active role in your community, your home, to make it a better place for yourself and the people around you. It's a way to use your strengths, your mind, and your passion to work towards a common goal with other people who are interested in lending a hand." It was a fill others' buckets to fill your own thing, volunteerism, and the benefits of volunteering were numerous. "Can anyone give me an example of a time they volunteered their time and/or skills in a magical or muggle setting?"
