The verdict was as final as a life sentence to Azkaban... and she knew which she preferred. Humming something that vaguely sounded like an agreement Emily averted her gaze out the window to the street, but was soon drawn back to the table, the smell of the food twisting her nose unpleasantly.

She wasn't particularly hungry. Picking up her cup though, she inhaled the aroma of her coffee and was immediately disappointed with the sensation that gripped her stomach. It wasn't going to happen. Placing it in the centre of the table and opting to pick at her sandwich Emily shook her head gently. "Not dull, no." It was perhaps impossible for anyone to find the events of the morning dull, least of all to her. "Yours?" she queried, hoping he had another tale of incompetence to lift her spirits.

Perhaps it was a direct co-relation to his job, or maybe it was the fact that Emily had picked up then refused both food and coffee but Gavin was still watching, brown eyes suddenly going over her as if she was a subject who'd ingested a prototype and needed observation. A look she was likely to know by now but there was little he could do to mask it. Something was off.

His arms folded at his chest and he leaned into his seat, also noting the shift in conversation to himself. "Hectic." Normally, he would indulge her with wild stories of grown children who sometimes had paper clip wars when they thought he wasn't looking but he was much too interested in her at the moment. "Why not dull?" If not dull, she surely wouldn't have walked into the cafe looking like this.

"Have you already eaten? We could have gone to the park instead." Her face had more colour in it when she'd left the house this morning, hadn't it? "Did someone die?" Speaking of death, didn't she have that appointment with her Healer this morning to sort out her 'coffee aversion'?

"How's that Healer of yours?"
