If they were even planning on coming. She also could have very easily just leaned over to look at the other nametags at her table, but that would have shown she was curious. She’d rather not look curious about anything. She wasn’t a first year, although she’d never been that curious even when she had been one. It just seemed easier to keep up her usual façade, making sure people knew who she was and how to treat her.

And then there was an exclamation that had seemed like it was nearly right behind her head, making a bit of a look appear on her face even before the younger boy had taken a seat. She barely even acknowledged him as he’d made adjustments to his nametag, rather hoping that if she ignored him he wouldn’t think that gave him permission to speak. She’d just pretend she was paying attention to the professor. She bit back a sigh though, as her table companion felt the need to speak. “I’d guess they’re paintings,” she replied dryly. At least, they were something that could be hung on the wall. Either way, if he listened he’d probably find out what they were anyway. That was usually how lessons worked here.

The comment that was obviously not directed at them only made Brooklyn feel like her idea about the lesson was valid. She figured there had to be something that could talk back that the professor was speaking to, and the question that was then directed at the class only proved that more. He’d have no reason to ask about interactions they’d had with paintings unless there was a reason. Granted, she preferred not speaking with the portraits, but she could at least feign that she was listening to the stories the others were telling.

Dot seemed to have the right idea, anyway. Making deals with the portraits would be something she would do, considering it just made sense to find ways they could be useful. She just hadn’t had any reason to use the idea.
Yeah, Matt knew THAT much too. He looked from the things on the wall to the girl and waited as if she was supposed to keep speaking to him. Was that it? Was that her answer??? Matt eeeyeeed her but didn't make any more comments. He had heard some funny things about some Slytherins, but he'd rather believe those things weren't true. Besides, he knew at least TWO Slytherins that were very nice, so there was THAT.

But weeeeeeeeeeeeell then, if the girl didn't want to CHAT, Matt didn't mind. Okay, he DID mind, but it was lesson time anyway, so he couldn't continue with the conversation even if she had wanted to.

History. Herstory? This professor was mental, haha, what was he even going on about?? Mestory. Shestory. Westory. Ourstory. Theystory. Matt was getting carried away.

He had also never spoken to any portrait except the Fat lady, but he had only given her passwords; the most he ever spoke to her was some greeting and the like. Nothing too long as he was always rushing in or out of the Common Room because there were so many PLACES to go and so many THINGS to do at Hogwarts!!!

They were supposed to ask questions to the portraits and that didn't excite Matt at all. He had been right, History of Magic was going to be sloow and boring. Matt didn't relate to any of the portraits and the girl sitting with him didn't help either. He gave her a bored look and partially turned his attention back to the portraits as his classmates asked them questions.

Partially, because his mind was starting to go elsewhere. Like the outside. Hogwarts grounds! Merlin, how he wished he could be outside right now. Didn't matter what he'd be doing; all that mattered was that he'd be outside and doing something that wasn't studying history. Or studying anything at all. Yeah, that would be the BEST!

What time was it now? Were they done yet?
