So her table-mate had seen her. Clearly Janelle had caught him off guard with her silent greeting. Daxton checking out her nametag did not go unoticed by the Ravenclaw. When he acknowledged her with a head nod of his own, Janelle was pleased. That was something. Not wanting to push her luck with the younger boy, she looked away. Baby steps.

Before she knew it, class was starting and Professor Finch began his opening statement. Janelle listened with interest, as she hoped to get some insight into his plans for the year. Then she realized that they would probably be interacting with portraits at some point during class.

As the professor asked the first question, Janelle frowned. Had she had any interaction with the portraits at school or otherwise? Reluctantly, Janelle raised her hand. Unfortunately, she did not have a great deal to add to the conversation. "I haven't really had a proper conversation with any of the portraits. I've really only said hello or had a very quick chat with some of them in passing. No storied, just a hi, how are you?" Having said that, Janelle realized how she had probably wasted an opportunity to gain some knowledge about a variety of things. She would have to pay more attention to the portraits and the people in them.
