Oh, the PORTRAITS were so interesting, and Dot sat up straighter to listen to the stories being told. Didn't people know how dead useful those portraits were? They knew everything, saw everything. They were the greatest source of gossip in the school, the fastest to know what was new, and they were helpful if you made it worth their while.
Listen up, kiddos.
Dot raised her hand. "I have an arrangement with some of the portraits to tell me when they spot people out after curfew. It was easy... I did them a favor, and they do me a favor. Like there's a lady near the kitchens who is too proper to introduce herself to a knight on the fourth floor, so I arranged an introduction. Easy."
