Dante had heard a lot of good stories from the portraits since wanted he liked to do in the past was wander the castle and talk to then. Annoy some others. But they were interesting to Dante. It was not as easy as say Gryffindor having a portrait as your common room entrance. But yeah he did know some potraits
"The only worth while story i heard is from a portrait is some girl transfigured her self into a fish just because she was forbidden to marry a merman. Then nobody saw her again after that. Sad stuff"
Though most of the portraits were pretty awesome
