#1 I'm dreaming with my eyes wide open
They had to fight dummies now? And no wands? Wow. This was NOT how Garreth had imagined this class would go. Wasn't this Defense against the DARK ARTS? Last time he checked, Kung-Fu wasn't a dark art. At least the Professor had been a little more open to his second answer.
Well, it was no use arguing with the professor. He probably knew what he was doing, even if Garreth wasn't thrilled about the whole "no magic" thing. The first-year gave Azura a sympathetic look before he stepped up to one of the dummies. Best to get this over with. Looking up at the dummy, he waited for it do make a move. As weird a thing as that was to expect of a dummy, he didn't have to wait long. As the synthetic man suddenly sprang into life and reached out for him, Garreth jumped back and gave a - quite frankly pathetic - yelp.
It was now or never! The boy had to act quickly or risk being.. hugged? His first thought was to go for the jugular or the temples like he had suggested in his earlier answer, but the dummy was rather tall compared to him, and he'd need a stepladder to reach! He'd need to aim for something else. What were the other pressure points he had mentioned? Oh, yes! The knees! Summoning all the disappointment over the first few days of school into one hard chop, the boy slammed his elbow into the dummy's kneecap as hard as he could. "Take that!" he grunted angrily. In what Garreth found to be quite an underwhelming response, the dummy simply stopped its onslaught and returned to its original position. Was that a success? He hoped so. Maybe he had to strike it again?
