Not that he knew who she was, he had absolutely no idea, but he didn’t like her. Already didn’t like her one bit. He looked up, almost alarmed, as she eyed Merlin. Merlin who let out a weary bark in return.
James quickly reached over to pet his head, letting him know that it was quite alright, before looking back up at The-Human-Pogo-Stick Child. ”A Great Dane, impressive observation,” he confirmed. Not that impressive actually, but eh. Maybe she’d calm down now? It was worth a try. And then there spitfire questions all at once. Maybe it didn’t work. He took a deep breath. What the heck did the elves put in the food here? Essence of insanity, if he had a guess. ”Yes. Merlin. And actually no, I adopted him from a muggle shelter.” Answers all in order.
Geez.
Did she ever stop to breathe? He opted to stay silent as she spit out every word in the english dictionary as if it would be her last opportunity to speak for the rest of her life. Which clearly, it wasn’t. So if she wanted to take things slow it wouldn’t be a problem. Just saying. He let most of her words pass through, without pondering on them for too long. Most of it felt irrelevant anyways.
But then she stopped talking. Surprised? Very. Though, in all honesty, James almost preferred the talking to the staring…. He gave her a curious look, as he leaned back in his desk. He wasn’t uncomfortable with the staring. But she came to HIS office. She was the one who had to prompt the questions here. So he didn’t say anything, waiting on her instead.
Ah finally. ”Pleasure to meet you, Miss Johanson,” he nodded, giving a forced small grin in return. Take the ‘pleasure’ bit lightly. And he couldn’t offer any other words because there she went again. This was going to be a horribly long day, he could already tell. Aheeeeem. He tried not to look too miserable. ”The form only asks for your signature,” had she even read it? Tut, tut. ”But informally, it would be good for your guardian to know that you do plan on working with the creatures all term.” What she said about her sister was irrelevant. ”Be it a parent or sister, doesn’t matter.”
Did that answer her question? …. Not all of them of course, because there were at least ten more now. What she said about the dragons, James didn’t care to try and figure out. If it was something he ought to know, she would’ve bounced about it. So he shrugged it off. ”If we have enough time…” and if the students quit bursting into his office and let him actually come up with lesson plans, then ”Maybe.” He wasn’t about to divulge lesson plans here, yo. He hadn’t even made them all yet. And something told him that if he were to tell Melbourne the plans, the entire school would know by dusk tomorrow.
As for the comment about his face, he heard that. But politely chose to ignore it, as it would make for a very unprofessional conversation. And he already knew he had a pretty face. ”One thing at a time, Miss Johanson,” in other words LET THE MAN ANSWER ALL THOSE OTHER QUESTIONS FIRST then they could get to the Jarvey matter. How did that sound? Even Mel knew that wasn’t impressive, “its not impressive…it just means I know dogs.” She shrugged and looked up at the Professor tilting her head, “really? Merlin I like the name,” she smiled to the dog and took a quick step over to the dog and gave it a pat on the head before attempting to scratch behind his ear. She was being friendly yes.
Maybe Merlin would like her by the end of this…heck, she’d even just like walking the dog and sitting with it and talking with him and playing with him…gosh, she missed dogs. “Good boy,” she smiled over to him and continued petting him…yes she was sort of unaware that she had put Professor Draper on edge.
She wasn’t staring now. Nope. Just staring at Merlin and smiling and petting him for a bit before retreating back again and giving the dog some space. He deserved space…people were different than dogs…dogs were her favorite thing ever well, other than dragons.
Somehow she didn’t trust his smile but she sent one back in return. “I wanted to make sure to be safe…as I wouldn’t mind working with the more dangerous creatures…I’ve already seen a dragon I person when I was a kid” she nodded and beamed happily…dragons were awesome. Her favorite. He was maybe her second favorite now. Yep. “Thank you” she nodded and grinned at him.
REALLY IF THEY HAD TIME? That was the best news well EVER. She was beaming. “That is awesome! If you need help I know a lot about dragons I was even born at the Welsh Dragon reserve” she nodded to him and grinned. DRAGONS WERE LIFE.
“Of course…I just want to train him to stop antagonizing my owl…Moriarity keeps trying to eat Sherlock,” she added with a huff and frowned. She would be so sad if Sherlock died. He was her companion for so long now. Her curse spewing companion.
