Ariadne was keeping her distance from the Whomping Willow. She knew she was far enough not to get whomped by it, but close enough to solve her curiosity. She was the slytherin girl Jessie met in the great hall. Jessie saw her talking so close with Raven and made her jealous.

When they accidentally make an eyecontact, Jessie smiling at her. Even Jessie still remember how jealous she was before, but her *cough* boyfriend *cough* told Jessie that nothing happened between them.
And Jessie trust him.
So she wants to be friend with the Slytherin girl.
