He was focusing on making a visual on the box's face, putting an image of a deadbolt upon it and imagining himself physically unlocking the box to get a real mental picture on what he wanted to do here before he attempted it with the spell.
Once he had successfully gotten the image in his mind, Callum raised his wand, his eyebrows furrowing slightly with determination and focus, and he took a deep, cleansing breath before he followed Davie's wand movement from earlier and cast, "Alohomora!"
The box clicked open and Callum smiled, his body visibly dispelling tension, and he had to remember to thank Davie again later.
Sure, it was not absolutely grand that it took him that much forethought and concentration to successfully perform a charm, but at least he had gotten it on his first tries instead of giving many half-hearted attempts and seeing no results, right? That was how he saw it, and he was content with his progress.
Now that the box was open a group of letters glowed, B, R, A, D. Say these and head to the next room. SPOILER!!: Lissy Longbottom Quote:

To her surprise, the box opened with a small POP on the first try! YES! She reminded herself not to get TOO excited - it was ONE lucky try after all - but for now, it was a huge win. Now to get the letters and get moving!
