Everyone else seemed content and settled at the moment, including itty bitty Cornelius, so Dot turned her attention back to the box. Locked boxes were exciting. They could hold anything at all in the world, while an open box only ever held whatever it was you saw inside. There could be a treasure in here. A ghost. A secret. A story.
No, there was a piece of paper, which was a shame because it ruined the excitement of having a locked box. A piece of paper with NUMBERS on it, which was even more of a shame. Dot poked her wand at the sealed box, intent on the spell as she cast it. Maybe non-verbal this time? She hadn't really tried that much yet, but it was something they were meant to start working on this year. Plus she'd already opened a thing once this class period.
UMMM. She shaped the incantation out silently, feeling her way along the word with her mind instead of with her mouth. It felt awkward, and she kept thinking about other things half way through. The professor. The ickles. Where was Kyroh and was he wearing the tie she'd made him? OH, right! Alohomora. Alohomora. She felt her wand pulse, and the box popped open.
