It would've been both embarrassing, and quite possibly a waste of a good pear. "Oh... uh... thanks," despite the hesitation in his words, he grinned at the compliment, excited and glad that someone other than his family thought he was good at drawing!
Because family was required to compliment him. His eyes turned to the boy (Davie)who he hadn't noticed before the girl introduced them. "No we haven't met," he answered, his voice a bit more confident. At that point he realised he still hadn't introduced himself. "I'm Jasper, nice to meet you both." Quote:

That was why he was out here writing down his observations! He smiled at Jasper as he sat down though, and returned the phrase, "Nice to meet you too."
So, back to talkative Miss Haddie. "Oh, you ARE a Ravenclaw then," he half-joked. Look at him, making a joke. "The adults might not realize it, but there's a fine line between THROWING food and merely dumping it STRATEGICALLY. I appreciate the difference." It was like the difference between stealing someone's quill and accidentally finding the quill. A BIG difference. He knew all about that.
Wait, blimey? They were on another topic already! "Uhhh, I guess," he blinked. "I usually use more Wizard slang--- did you say British, though? Are you not British?" To tell the truth, he hadn't noticed any particular accent with her either. David really, really needed to work on his people skills. He did let out a laugh at Haddie's carp pun though. "Good one. Clever. I like it." Holy carp. Heh. Heh. Would it be rude if he wrote that one down to tell to Char later? He nodded at her bit about a twin, adding, "Does she go here too?"
Seemed like they liked some of the same stuff. David didn't usually do thing just to do them though. He would have to have some curiosity about how or why they worked to be motivated to do them. Sure, he wondered if someone could catch a snitch via their mouth, swallow it whole, digest it, and then defecate it out and have it still count as a win, but he wasn't curious enough to try it.
He chuckled again as she threw the pair, looking over at Jasper too. "How are you liking Hogwarts so far?" "Jasper? Nice name. And you're welcome." Haddie's eyes danced quizzically when Davie commenting on her being Ravenclaw. "I am?" She shrugged. "I don't know, honestly. From what I saw at the opening dinner, thing, I thought I must have been Gryffindor, and the Sorting Hat made a mistake, or something." She held up a hand before Davie or Jasper could could correct her. "I know, I know, 'It doesn't make mistakes.'" She said it with exaggerated shake of the head, and somehow managed to sound like she was mimicking, or mocking, every single person that had told her that, individually.
She continued to watch Jasper sketch. She liked watching him sketch. He was good. But it also might have something to do with the first hints of an idea forming. Davie pulled her attention away, though. She studied him curiously for a moment. "No, American. Southern California. You can't tell?" That was odd. Was she picking up a British accent without realizing it? That was a thing, right? Before you're 13 or something, you have the ability still to adopt the accent of the place you move to, or something? Maybe Rachel would know. She'll have to remember to ask her later. "So, wizarding slang? Like muggle and such?" If there was wizard slang, she should probably get on that.
Eh, she'll probably pick it up naturally now, being here. "Jasper, do you do portraits? Like the ones in Hogwarts, that live?" She wasn't sure if that was the correct term for it, but the painted figures in those moved, talked, thought independently, so it seemed like they were alive to her. She only actually have understood why she was asking. Which ever idea was taking root, she wasn't aware of it yet, and acting more on instinct. "I might commission you for something in the future, if you're interested. It won't before a while though..." And definitely not until she was aware of what her mind was plotting.
She focused back on Davie, and closed her eyes momentarily, then shook her head. "No. Natalie's muggle, sadly. Everyone in my family is muggle except me. And my cousin, but that's because her Mum is one, I guess. She's first year too, and also in Ravenclaw. Ailsa? Or Elsa if you want to tease her." She looked between Jasper and Davie to see if they knew her yet. She was a lot more the classic Ravenclaw, so wouldn't be surprised if the house gravitated to her, or Rachel, more. "The school's fantastic. I mean, how couldn't you love it here? We get to live in a castle and learn and play with magic. What's not to love? Sooo," she looked at Davie. "What about me, or what do you see about me that makes me a Ravenclaw?" It had been bugging her since he made that comment, and her curiosity was too strong now. She had to know. Also, "And what are chocolate frog cards?"
