He had to separate from Char now, which was a little unnerving. It was not often that Callum did things completely independently from his family, but the thought was also kind of... exhilarating. He did wish that he knew some spells on how to keep a boat from sinking because he was so close to getting to Hogwarts, and it would have been an awful shame to die when he was so close to following in line with his family's legacy.
After bidding a slightly apprehensive farewell to his sister, Callum followed along with the others as the groundskeeper beckoned them over, and he squinted at the faces around him in the dark, trying to make out who was around him. There were a few kids his age he knew would be attending Hogwarts this term as a first year like him, but he could not find a familiar one as he searched his surroundings. No matter, though. He was fine on his own, and halfway down their voyage to the lake, he changed his mindset from searching for friends to examining their surroundings. The trees, the landscape at large, and... Merlin, the castle in the distance. Breathtaking, it was, and none of the photographs he had ever seen had done it justice.
Blinking out of his trance as the groundskeeper told them to go ahead and get inside a boat, Callum did not hesitate - he moved for the one furthest from everyone (that way, all his classmates who were causing all sorts of ruckus would get in the ones that were closest to the group, and hopefully he would get the ones who were more personable to embark on this journey with), and clambered inside. He got right into the very front of the boat so he would have the best view of the castle as they approached it and made himself comfortable, a small smile accompanying the delighted sparkle in his bright blue eyes.
He was almost there.
