The woman was definitely tormenting Daxton, and Dot was torn between wanting to push her down the stairs and wanting to respect her elders. Those were pretty much the only options in her mind at the moment, and she opted for respecting... and shielding Daxton a bit with her own body. She coughed and waved a hand in her face.

"Oh, it's quite strong, isn't it? Is that roses? Carnations? Hyacinth? I've always been interested in scents, but I can't quite pin yours down." Especially since it didn't cover the cabbage smell nearly well enough for Dot's standards. "And I never actually worry about the brussel sprouts. I just leave 'em to someone else to worry over. Don't even know why they make them, when no one in their right mind likes brussel sprouts. You can dip them in chocolate and call them candy, but they're still the nastiest things..."

Merlin, shut up, Charlotte. She took a deep breath, a mistake with all the pungent perfume and cabbaginess in the air, and Dot was suddenly coughing up her own lung. In between, she managed, "Spared from what, please? And do you need help to the dais, Miss? I'm sure we can get you there... safely." She was probably dying. Not spared, after all.

And there was a firstie right THERE, not even sorted yet. Even still valiantly trying to catch her breath, Dot gave the girl a big grin and pointed toward the Sorting Hat. "Go on with you, kid, and get sorted. You can't hide back here all night." Much fun as that might seem at the moment.
