Ailsa glanced tentatively around the shop, doing her best to blend into the wall behind her before her eyes alighted on an open area patrolled by a rather animated measuring tape that hovered in mid air, just as her mother had described. Still...
There's a moment's hesitation as the slight ginger girl regretted her insistence that she could handle this alone, without her mother's help. Still, nothing to be done about that now and panicking would help nothing.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer...
The familiar mantra from her father's old books running through her mind, Ailsa steeled herself and stepped into the measuring zone once it came to her turn in the queue. The tape whizzed around taking measurements of, well, everything as Ailsa did her best to stretch herself as tall as possible. It didn't really help; she knew that taking after mom meant she'd be lucky to hit 153 cm. But she tried anyway, allowing hope a rare victory over experience.
As she stepped away after the tape had finished Ailsa's internal ponderings became quietly audible accompanied by a thoughtful expression.
"Why did he need to measure my instep? And how did I know when he wanted me to put my arm out to the side? He's a measuring tape, he doesn't have an expression. Why am I calling a measuring tape a 'he'? He just seems like he has a name... Weird." Tegz: Ira has responded to your character here
