Melbourne is an adventurous soul. She is a mixture of the ESFP and ENTP-A personality types. Like ESFP explorer types Melbourne has a tendency to seem unfocused and not be the best with long-term planning. Mel is never the type to turn down the possibility for an adventure when one arises. While her family has traditions, such as using locations and significant places as names for pets and children, Melbourne tends to be more free-form about traditions and expectations. This coupled with her observant nature, tendency to be bold, and the drive to be “original” Mel never seems to be pegged as just one thing. Still being a creative soul Melbourne can be sensitive at times and generally tries to avoid conflicts as much as possible. Melbourne was born to Magizoologist & Dragonologist Carter and his Potioneer & Magizolooigst wife Lilian Johanson, while they were working on the Welsh Dragon Reserve. The couple was not planning on having any more children after their previous daughter had been born; still they welcomed their newest child and treated her with a modicum of love and appreciation. Since Mr. & Mrs. Johanson wanted to dedicate more time to their work they enlisted the help of their children in order to raise their youngest child. This was partially done as they didn’t want any unsavory incidents to occur and raising a child on a Dragon Reserve was not an appealing idea. However, as they were unwilling to divulge more time to their youngest child as they felt their work in the field would prove more fulfilling then the act of rearing another child. When Melbourne was only a few months old she was sent to live with her brother Jamison-Philip Johanson and his wife Brigid and their children. Brigid had recently lost a child and took Melbourne in as her own, nurturing and caring for the young girl until her untimely death while working in her potions lab.

This death not only hit Melbourne hard as Brigid was like a mother to her, it hit Jamison and his daughters Jennifer (surviving youngest), Maddox, and Clarissa equally as hard. This death prompted Melbourne to be sent off to live with her brother Finnlay Johanson as he did not have any children of his own and unlike his brother could presumably dedicate more time to the wayward child. Finnlay had his hands full from day one. This was impart due to the fact that not soon after moving to Finnlay’s home near Ambleside Cumbria Melbourne met her neighbor, and future best-friend Tenacius Salander. The young girl would run away from her brothers house only to be found moments later playing with Tenacius Salander or covered in mud attempting to reach her neighbors house. Through living with her brother Melbourne met Emmaleigh Swynford, a woman with whom Melbourne looked up to and feared in a respectful way. This was due to the fact that Emmaleigh had a very maternal way of speaking with her, it was later when Emmaleigh became her best friend Tenacius’ mother that Mel’s true anxiety with the older woman began to grow. This was more due to the fact that Melbourne didn’t want to cross the Salander woman or to get reprimanded by a woman that she dearly respected. Through meeting Emmaleigh and Tenacius, Melbourne became friends with Samantha Swynford. Samantha though she lived farther away was a constant figure in her childhood due to the fact that Sam’s sister, Emmaleigh worked along side her brother Finn.

When Finnlay Johanson began a new relationship Melbourne immediately got a new babysitter through the interaction. This baby sitter was none other than roller-derby star and Slytherin Extraordinaire Rorie Hazelwood – the niece of her brothers girlfriend. Soon after this her brother Finn was hired to work with the Ambleside Cumbria Wizarding University and the time he could dedicate to his sister was limited at best. This prompted Melbourne to move in with her sister India Johanson in the city where India was building her clothing store. While India was busy she made an executive decision to put her family friend and someone her parents had considered to be family down as a joint guardian along with herself. This originally was meant to be a preemptive measure incase anything happened to any of the siblings, however, things changed. The change happened in the form of a marriage between Thunder Ward and Dustin Sorin. The couple thusly became the Sorin-Ward family, and as both men had grown to love Melbourne they petitioned the siblings for custody of the young girl as they felt she deserved a stable home. This all took place while Melbourne was beginning her first years of Hogwarts and the custody agreements were finalized by the end of her second year.

It was in Hogwarts where Melbourne became good friends with witches and wizards of all walks of life. The newly sorted Gryffindor even met her best friend nearly instantly in her first year at the school, which proved interesting as the girl became to be known as family. This new feeling of family shared with Hadley Denaker wasn’t short lived as it so happened that Melbourne and Hadley’s single grandparents met while they were attending school and developed a relationship. The couple even planned to marry in the summer of 2092.
