It took only a couple of seconds for Daxton to decide on his next move, and he was about to draw it into the grid when someone else took it for him.
He blinked, staring at the parchment and then up at the boy who had asked to join him. Daxton recognised him of course. Blaise Bellaire, with whom he had conspired in Defence Against the Dark Arts to turn out the lights and throw the broom closet full of people into darkness. The Gryffindor boy got a moment of shrewd consideration, before Daxton put pen to parchment again and drew in his next move, a means of silent consent. He'd let him play? "Thanks Mate!" Really, 'cause he didn't have anyone else to partner with and didn't think he'd have liked sitting at his own desk to play all alone. It was no fun and he'd have been bored before he knew it.
As it happened, it was his turn again and the boy quickly made a move; the first one to come to mind as luck would have it. But what? They had to stop already? This match was only just getting started. There was still a chance for either of them to win.
With a heavy sigh, Blaise faced forward in the seat he'd invaded, deciding it was better to stick close to his friend--partners twice, what else could he call it--in case they might need to partner up again later. Maybe they could even finish their game later after class. The boy would ask, afterall, the worst Daxton could do was walk away without giving him a response. Those weren't so bad.
The Gryffindor's eyes fixed on the Professor once more as she began her explanations. They were gonna be making squares with their birthdays? Well gosh, HE could do that and so he did, first drawing the square then fitting in his birthday. Quote:
