Rooney had had the problem with transfiguring animals into objects before he came to Hogwarts – both his understanding of the process and his direct humanitarian feelings about doing something to animals without their consent. Now that he was a second year, he understood that it wasn’t too awful in theory and he could apologise to the animals should he need to. However, he had worms to deal with in the beginning and his personal opinion about worms was that they definitely did not require any form of apology and this wasn’t technically cruelty. Matchboxes were helpful. Worms…not so much.
Making a face as his fingers touched the worms on his desk, Roo pointed his wand and whispered the incantation as he remembered it. ”Flintifors?” No, no, definitely not. That was not it. Nothing actually happened, and he knew straight away that it was the lack of flicking and his confusion regarding the whole performance of the spell.
He took a deep breath, looked around once more and concentrated again. ”Sorry, Wiggles.” He really was. The worm was probably crying in worm language and trying to summon all of his family members for a wiggly worm uproar. His wand pointed, flicked upwards and he spoke once more; this time more determined. ”Flintifors!”

Pretending that he wasn’t completely crazy and ecstatic, Rooney nodded courteously and danced around JUST in his head. No real dancing. Pretend dancing.
