Right, time to get on worth the potion-taking then. Davie agreed with Milo's idea to just put on a robe, so he quickly abandoned his pjs in favor of that idea and then held onto his potion again. He had picked a really clever animal for this task, too, and as long as he wasn't up too high when the time ran out, this would be a really fun experience.
Nodding to show Aldous that he was ready for the three-count, David held his phial to his lips on three and hastily forced himself to down the entire thing. Ugh, it tasted nasty, a little bit reminiscent of fish for some reason, but he choked it down anyway. He was hoping to become a soaring, flying eagle, and drinking a bit of nasty professor-made potion first wouldn't kill him.
And right away, the potion began to work its magic. Davie felt himself shrinking in height on the bed while his arms seemed to stretch out at the same time. It was like all the height he was losing was going to his arm bones. Only they weren't bones anymore; they were light feathery things that seemed to catch the air in the room without really trying! And his head, ouch, that shrinking part hadn't been fun, but his nose had suddenly hardened into a beak and his eyes were amazingly crisper, every movement showing up like it was being recorded in high definition!
"This is fantastic!" Davie tried to say, flapping his hands wings already. Of course all that came out was a loud and long, "SQUAAAAWWWWK!!!!" And for all his flapping, Davie found himself falling toward the edge of his bed, out of his robe, and soon he was gliding gently around the room, only at bed level right now, but it was enough of an amazing feeling that he knew he was never going to get over ACTUAL FLYING.
