Ellery was already beaming at all her new housemates, waving at them and grinning and envisioning how GOOD her hair was going to look with the scarves, but then it was her brother's sorting. They DID go back to back, of course.
She was giving him all the reassuring smiles, making a heart with her hands, et cetera, when all of a sudden…
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH!!!! Real funny, Dr. Hat," she said, looking around and shrugging. Hats could make jokes too, she supposed. But nobody else was smiling - or at least not at the hat. She turned in horror back to her brother, but he was heading to the WRONG house table, a.k.a. NOT GRYFFINDOR.
"DR. HAT," she practically screeched inside her head, hands clamped over her ears. Ohno ohno ohno. In all of her "what if"s about Hogwarts, her brother NOT being in her house was NEVER one of them. When the hat didn't reply inside her head, she stood up, turned around, and ran towards the Slytherin table.
