Probably not. And C… well… Jory is just too good for me, Gwendolyn thought. As she was about to start saying something, she thought once again about his engagement to Ronnie. Gwen couldn’t do this to him. What kind of a best friend am I?, she told herself. No, she was going to shut up. Jory was happy and that was important; who was she to mess everything up? . . .
Gwen just realised how quiet she got while trying to figure out what to tell Jory.
Aaaaand apparently Jory didn’t quite believe the ‘amazing for listening’ part. Yes, she did mean to say something else, it’s not all in your head. ‘About us?’, Gwendolyn enquired, trying to keep calm. Deeeeep breath. ‘Well… you might be right…’, she admitted, looking back at Jory.
Jory lapsed briefly into silence, consumed by his own thoughts. Little did he know what was going on in Gwen's head. The thing was, he couldn't look away from Gwen even though he was occupied with his churning emotions. "I am?'' he questioned mildly. Without realising it, he had leaned closer to her. She was like a magnet, drawing him in. "I don't know what you're going to say but it couldn't have been more important than this...'' Then Jory did something that he would not have done without thinking twice. He kissed Gwen softly on her lips.
He opened his eyes as he pulled back. Already, the emotions were drowning him, guilt and apprehension were the dominant ones. |
