Desiree understood Arithmancy. Numbers, order, patterns, all that. Just as she was beginning to get into Karmic numbers and enjoy the simple satisfaction of writing down the problems and doing the calculations (however basic they may be) it was time to move on.

Really, cell phones were more practical than owls for a lot of reasons.. text messages and calls were instant, owls have to fly however long you've sent them, 'then' fly back to see what they've replied. Also cell phones are never temperamental and don't pester you for treats.. She loved her owl though, really. And of course letters had a certain charm to them.
