Yes, she wanted to write another question. Genny took back the notebook and scribbled as quickly as she could, 'who are you waiting for?' And because she was too impatient to wait, she wrote another question, 'why don't you talk?'. There. Now he was free to answer, she nudged the notebook towards him and shifted where she sat to a more comfortable position. This was going to take a while.

Once again, Daxton read the words upside down as the girl wrote them. He didn't really need for the words to be right side up, so by the time he was turning the notebook back his way, he was actually already mentally forming his response.

He needed a pen. At first, Daxton had considered grabbing the pen back to write with, but leaning into her personal space felt too much like sacrificing his own. In any case, he had spares in his pockets, as was his habit. While the girl fidgeted around, Daxton extracted another biro from a different pocket and wrote out his responses, his handwriting deliberate and neat though it took him almost no time at all to write. When he was done, he looked up again, shuffling around on the bench so he was sat on it sideways, cross-legged and facing the girl. He held out the notebook for her to read and respond.

'My mum. She is in the book shop.

I just can't talk to people. Why don't you talk?'
