Sir John Hurt, who played wandmaker Ollivander in the
Harry Potter series, among so many great roles in the past 50 years, announced this week that he is undergoing treatment for the early stages of pancreatic cancer.

I have recently been diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer. I am undergoing treatment and am more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team.
I am continuing to focus on my professional commitments and will shortly be recording Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell (one of life’s small ironies!) for BBC Radio 4.
Hurt, who is now 75, received a British Knighthood this past new year for his services to the arts and drama. Our thoughts and prayers to the actor and his family in this trying time.
