| Astro HW #1 ½ EagleBrain ♥ Creeperdoodle ♥ Raven Dor ♥ Berry ♥ ½ Team House Elf LALALALALA... it was early enough to do this, right? Or well more to the point, it wasn't too LATE to start it, right? RIGHT? Zeke had gone to collect the materials, and was distracted on his way down here by the promise of food... so understandable he had prioritised his stomach over measuring tides. But now that he was here, flag sticks and ruler and all.
Zeke set his things on the shore and sat himself down to do his prep work. First he started by measuring his flag stick because he needed to know how deep to set it and how much space there still was for the tide to rise. Taking a black marker, he etched out lines along the post to indicate units of measurement by inches. Once that was done, Zeke let it dry and using his wand cast the hot-air charm on it so that the ink would be absorbed and dry out quicker - making it more resistant to water and unlikely to smudge or fade or wash off completely. Using the marker, he wrote his name on his flag too, for good measure.
But where to put it? He didn't want to put it too close to shore, because if the tide went out then it would be infinitely harder to measure than if the tide increased, so he needed to place it IN in the water. Somewhere that it had room to move either way.
...
Taking his shoes and socks off, Zeke rolled up the bottom of his pants as high as they would go. Despite the nippy Scottish air, he pulled his jumper and shirt up and over his head and set those on top of his shoes. He didn't want to waste time with drying, and he would need to get his arms wet. Once he was ready, then he took a few paces into the water from its edge at the shore. Flag-stake in hand, Zeke decided on a spot and with his fingers indicating the mark of two inches from the bottom of the stake, he bent low and started shoving it into the soft sandy-semi-clayish soil beneath the water. The reason for doing this was so that he would have ten inches to spare for the tide. With the flag stuck in, Zeke retracted his arm and took the few paces back to shore to put his clothes back on.
This was easy enough.
Notebook out, Zeke recorded his progress.
So apparently now he had to wait a very precise 6 hours, 12 minutes and 30 seconds... fascinating, why so long? Was that something he needed to know? Was it covered in class? Meh.
Zeke rolled down his pants, put his shoes back on and headed back up to the castle, classes were still waiting for him, he'd be back after.
